    1. Re: [ILSTANNE] ST. Anne, IL to Fowler, Benton Co., IN
    2. I've seen Denault spelled Deneau, Denno, Deno, Denault, Deneault and Denaut so Denio could very well be another variation. Depends upon who the census taker was I guess. My g grandfather, Louis Deno, couldn't read or write English so I can understand how the name became Deno in Fowler, IN in Kankakee, IL it's still Denault. Karen

    2. On one of my many excursions into cemeteries I ran into the following memorials. I think it was St. Anne but I'm not sure as it was 2 years ago. If anyone recognizes these names will you please let me know. This is a different spelling than the folks in Kankakee and the surrounding areas use. Here goes: Joseph Deneault b 1897 d 1976 Spouse of Alberta Provost b 1894 d 1955 Victor Deneault b 1870 d 1940 Spouse of Georgianna Robert b 1870 d 1956 Marcel Deneault b 1920 Spouse of Marquise Potvin b 1929 Melanise Deneault Spouse of Joseph Ouimet d November 5, 1910 56 years old Dosithee Deneault b 1869 d 1975 Spouses Georgina Guertin b 1876 d 1943, Malvina Dupuis b 1870 d 1943 Romeo Deneault b 1898 d 1975 Spouse Stephanie Guertin b 1902 d 1979 Their children: Sylvio Rene Deneault b 1913 d 1916, Sarto Deneault b 1911 d 1960 Adrien Denault b 1886 d 1971 Spouse Josephine Rougeau b 1901 d 1988 Romulus Deneault b 1893 d 1963 Spouse of Cecile Poissant b 1889 d 1974 Child (I assume) Florina 6 months, 1929 Victor Deneault b 1869 d 1940 Spouse of Aurore Poissant b 1902 d 1953. Also at same location Joseph 1955, don't know if this is birth or death date. Sergius Deneault b 1905 Spouse of Anne-Marie Regnier b 1913. Also says Leur fils Real 1936-1955 Honorius Deneault b 1889 d 1953 Spouse Annette Filion b 1900 no death date Meriel (no last name but on other side of tombstone for Honorius and Annette) b 1928 d 1928, below her name is Yves b 1936 d 1936 Eliza Tremblay Spouse of Z. Daigneault, died July 1907, age 50 years. This one is in St. Anne: Mitchell Denno b 1842 d 1893 Another one simply says "Son Francis b 1919 d 1932" Seems like some of them have almost Latin names. Any ideas out there? Thanks, Karen

I think it was called "Sheff round house". This rail line is the same one that goes thru Loda, Beaverville and St. Anne. My great grand father, Oscar "Buck" Gress born 1886 worked as a railroad man all his life. He was born in Benton Co... He married Ida Legris who was originally from Beaverville but raised by a railroad worker, Isaac Boutim near Fowler. An inspection of a phone book in Fowler would resemble that of Beaverville, St. Anne or Bourbonnais as there were many FC families who settled there after 1870.

Generally, families moved together - the travel was easier; getting settled was easier. The decision to leave: well, someone gets a bright idea and/or hears about some wonderful place - other families get intrigued - cousins and friends join in - and pretty soon a group of 10 to 20 sets out for the new location. 2. Thanks to Anita for posting the research sites. I will check them out later. I hope their marriage index is a good as the IL Index which has been a real boon to me. I have wondered what the big attraction to the Fowler area of IN was. I also have a few of the St Anne families who moved to that area (Roy, Campbell, etc.) Could it have been railroad jobs? Lots of cornfields in that area now, but the towns are pretty small. Some of my other families may have also moved there. Anyone who knows more about why they moved there, please let us know. Audrey

Part of their FamilySearch website features a number of these research helps as the "Family History SourceGuide". The SourceGuide is a collection of research papers, word lists, addresses of libraries, form letters, and other handy and informative publications that originally appeared in print, then on CD-ROM. Now they are freely available via the World Wide Web. The elements of the SourceGuide are arranged alphabetically by locality (state or country), then by topic, in a well-annotated table of contents that links directly to the individual research guides. Do you need the addresses of archives and libraries in Alaska? Information on the 1881 British census? Form letters to use when writing to parish priests in Germany? All those and more are part of the SourceGuide. There are research papers for each of the United States, for most of the European countries, and a general-purpose guide for many Latin American nations, but coverage of other parts of the world is noticeably smaller. Even so, the SourceGuide is useful for most American family historians. The old saying is that "you get what you pay for". But in the case of the SourceGuide that old saw is patently false. The research papers and other components are of the highest quality, and can be useful to you in your research time and again. 2. Les Arseneau
    3. Hi listers, My wife and I each have an ancestor who was a German soldier serving on the side of the British in the American Revolution. There were about 2000 of these soldiers who stayed in Quebec after the war and they were discharged in 1783. So, if you have a German ancestor who married a Quebec girl/lady, it is more than likely that he was one of these soldiers. I would suggest that you become a member of the following email list to help you in your research: AMREV-HESSIANS-L-request@rootsweb.com There is also a website that may interest you: http://www.cgo.wave.ca/~hessian Good luck Les Arseneau Fountain Valley, CA ACGS #4530

    2. Thanks to Les Arseneau for the link to nice bit of history on the Hessians who settled in Canada after the Revolutionary War. The recent TV movie "The Crossing" told the story of George Washington's battle against the well trained German Hessian Troops. Luckily the American's were able to sneek up on the Hessian troops while they were sleeping. The Hessian troops far out numbered the rag tag Americans, and had superior training, and weapons. If you missed the original broadcast, you might want to keep an eye open for the reruns. Genealogy gives us a brush up course on History and Geography. It adds so much to your research work when you discover what brought your ancestors to North America. Audrey

    1. [ILSTANNE] PRDH and "All Related"
    2. Hi Ginny, The PRDH is great! I was wondering if there's a way to do a search without the "given name", just the surname? Also, is everything limited to pre-1799? Re: "All related' The identical situation ocurred with our Forgue families. There were 2 Forgue families in Kankakee. My husband Donald Forgue's family and the family of Dr. Donald Forgue, (member of our list). Had always heard the two families were not related, but since I had collected every Forgue I could find back to the 1600's, I was sure the two families would connect...and they did. We had to go back 6 or 7 generations and the connection was made in Quebec. They probably almost all descend from the French military. Holly Ginny Crawford wrote: << ...Again, the PRDH is a marvelous site for tracing the origins of the St.Anne families.   And yes, I think we are all related to some degree, somehow...... Members of my GUERTIN family living in St. Anne and Kankakee in the mid-1900s always said that while they knew that there was another GUERTIN family in and around Bourbonnais, "the other GUERTINs were not related".   Nope, no connection at all!   Well, come to find out in these technological times: the Bourbonnais-area family descended from Louis, oldest son of Louis Guertin dit le Sabotier (the original emigrant, married in Quebec in 1659) and the St. Anne family was descended from the youngest son, Paul.   A long way back, to be sure, but related they were. So much fun! Cheers to all, Ginny >> http://community.webtv.net/Forgue/ForgueMore

About the other question - I have referred that to Carol Anne and GFSSuzzane. In my own researches, I could not get the PRDH to let me enter an inquiry for the surname alone, a monumental frustration. I hope there is some way to do it that I just could not figure out. P.S. But if you do not have the correct given name on an individual, refer to the PRDH page on frequency of given names and work your way through the list from most- to least-used, combined with your target surname.
