Wonderful, It looks like the folks who run the server which hosts the kvgs site are rebuilding the server. I will monitor it frequently to see if they restore, or if I need to upload everything again. I know the server was functional 2 -3 hours ago - I was uploading a revised page with no problem :-( Lee Ann ----- Original Message ----- From: <VCrawf@aol.com> To: <ILSTANNE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 06, 2000 1:59 PM Subject: [ILSTANNE] Surprise news!!! > In a message dated 4/6/2000 10:40:11 AM Pacific Daylight Time, lee@keynet.net > writes: > > http://www.kvgs.org/stannetwp/saga/ > > Can you guess what wonderfulness will be revealed at this address??? > > Well, it's the SAGA! Can't wait to read the Saga. Thanks for posting it and thanks to the ones who are getting it on line. I thought maybe I would see some French Canadian family names in the list of people interviewed, but am pleased to see my Aunt and Uncle on my dad's side were interviewed! Can't wait to see what they said. Rab PS Was in Illinois last week and visited St. Anne. Took some pictures at the Catholic Cemetery and of St. Anne's Catholic church. We were able to walk right into the church. What a feeling walking where my mom was baptized and where my granparents were married and had their funerals. I also stopped at St. John's in L'lerable and St. Mary's in Beaverville. I have added some pictures of St. Mary's to my web page and will have more including the other 2 churches as I can clear some space or get more room to add more pictures. All three churches are absolutely beautiful! Take a look. Click on Rab's Page http://www.angelfire.com/ns/rabspage/ then on the Illinois Churches link on the first page. It is still a work in progress and I have had trouble with the html language and getting things to work the way I want :-( St Anne church pictures are still in the camera so they will be posted last.
FOUND, courtesy of PRDH: (this is the 2d page of BEAUDRY variants) Standard name Variant Freq. BEAUDRY BEAUDY 1 BEAUDRY BODERIE 1 BEAUDRY BODRI 13 BEAUDRY BODRIL 7 BEAUDRY BODRIS 1 BEAUDRY BODRY 92 BEAUDRY BOUDRILL 2 Yep - BODRI and BODRIS are close enough to BODRIC for me to feel pretty sure that BEAUDRY was Noal's (Noel?) real last name. What think??? (I haven't yet tried BOUDROT, though.) Ginny

Bonjour Everyone, The url that Ginny sent, http://www.kvgs.org/stannetwp/saga/ ,is a good one and worked just fine for me. The Saga of St. Anne Be sure to copy and paste so that you will have the address correct or click on the blue letters above. There is still a huge amount to be added to the web site, but at least we have a start and it is out there for everyone to enjoy. Please be patient and check back each week to see how we are doing. The Saga of St. Anne is a wonderful genealogy resource for those tracing their family in that area. I hope you enjoy it. Carol Anne
Ginny, Thanks so much for letting us know about this. Will send a thanks to those involved. What a wonderful contribution. Myrna

Hi, Vickie - which one was it? BODRIC is looking more like BEAUDRY to me! Ginny
Good idea! not being "as much French" as my ancestors were I was/ am a bit illiterate about different spellings on all these French names.... I never gave another thought to the fact that Gelino could/ should be spelled any different than "Gelino"....... DAAAA on my part !!! I do have a favor to ask -- that is if anyone has any idea(s) as to WHAT different spellings could be used for the last name of BODRIC - please step forward and let me know. I used the Univ. of Montreal site to look up the different names/variations, but there wasn't any for BODRIC.... I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY IDEAS ON THIS! I am not having any luck in finding any trails on this name even though it was written this way on a marriage certificate for my Great Grandmother's parent's ; (Noal BODRIC and Armailen Marion.) MUCH APPRECIATED! Note: I think our F-C's purposely invented some even stranger names. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR NAMES: (1). Thou shalt name your male children: James, John, Joseph, Josiah, Abel, Richard, Thomas, William (2) Thou shalt name your female children: Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Maria, Sarah, Ida, Virginia, May (3) Thou shalt leave NO trace of your female children. (4) Thou shalt, after naming your children from the above lists, call them by strange nicknames such as: Ike, Eli, Polly, Dolly, Sukey.---making them difficult to trace. (5) Thou shalt NOT use any middle names on any legal documents or census reports, and only where necessary, you may use only initials on legal documents. (6)Thou shalt learn to sign all documents illegibly so that your surname can be spelled, or misspelled, in various ways: Hicks, Hicks, Hix, Hixe, Hucks, Kicks (7) Thou shalt, after no more then 3 generations, make sure that all family records are lost, misplaced, burned in a court house fire, or buried so that NO future trace of them can be found. (8) Thou shalt propagate misleading legends, rumors, & vague innuendo regarding your place origination (A) you may have come from : England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales....or Iran. (B) you may have American Indian ancestry of the______tribe...... (C) You may have descended from one of three brothers that came over from______ (9) Thou shalt leave NO cemetery records, or headstones with legible names. (10) Thou shalt leave NO family Bible with records of birth, marriages, or deaths. (11) Thou shalt ALWAYS flip thy name around. If born James Albert, thou must make all the rest of thy records in the names of Albert, AJ, JA, AL, Bert, Bart, or Alfred. (12) Thou must also flip thy parent's names when making reference to them, although "Unknown" or a blank line is an acceptable alternative. And my own personal addition: Thou shalt name at least 5 generations of males, and dozens of their cousins with identical names in order to totally confuse researchers.

But I did go to the frequency-of-given-names page and then ran through the fore-names that were there with my choice of surname. I picked up a few people that way, but it is not very satisfactory. Yes - the present parameter of the info is the 1621-1799 period - roughly from first settlement through the completed changeover to British rule. I'm sure they'll be going on to add other dates when they can! Glad you liked the site - I use the variant info all the time. Ginny
