    1. [ILSTANNE] Fortier - Lamie Connection
    2. Richard Graveline was kind enough to send me this item: Levi Felicien Fortier born January 9, 1871 Parents: Godfois Fortier and Marguerite Lamie Godparents: J. B. and Marie Allie I believe the godparent's are my Jean-Baptiste Allie and his wife Marie Adeline Lamie. There now appears to be a connection to the Fortier family. Marguerite Lamie Fortier MAY be the sister of my Adeline Lamie whose mother's name was listed on the marriage records Adeline Marcotte, father was C. Lamy (sic) and they lived in Bourbonnais Grove in 1845. I know that Bob Gieber & Brenda Herbert have Fortiers, and there may be others in our group. If anyone has any information on the parents or siblings of Marguerite Lamie Fortier, I would appreciate hearing from you. The Lamies have had me stumped for several years. Audrey Peters

    3. Hi There is not much to tell if you are in Bradley or Bourbonnais in that area. I was referring to the old Holiday Inn near Armour that is being refurbished. Both hotels are just off of I 57, one by the mall is north of I 57 and the other is a few blocks south of I 57. I think that is what is confussing people. Your are correct in the resturants near by, in fact they have added a White Casel, TGIF aka Thank Goodness It's Friday, and Loan Star Stake House that I can think of right off hand. Hope this helps VCrawf@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 8/14/2000 7:10:58 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > jfortin450@springnet1.com writes: > > << he old Holiday Inn north of Kankakee, in Bradley, is now being referbished > I do > know because I just drove past there yesterday. 1. [ILSTANNE] Copied from DearMyrtle
    2. This makes a lot of sense to me. Robert Roach From: ddebolt@mail.uwf.edu (Dean DeBolt) DearMYRTLE, I would like to remind your many readers that when they celebrate the successful help that they have received in a library, archives, or museum, that they take the time to write a short thank you letter to the director of that library, archives, or museum. As a university librarian, I work (hopefully successfully) with hundreds of genealogists and family historians every year, as do my colleagues at the public library and local historical society. If only one in ten expressed their appreciation for our collections, facilities, and staff...to the directors of these institutions, I think you'd see many of us getting increased funds to purchase more research materials, improve those photocopiers, and even additional staff. Just a thought. Dean DeBolt University Librarian Special Collections and West Florida Archives John C. Pace Library University of West Florida 11000 University Parkway Pensacola, FL 32514-5750

    1. [ILSTANNE] Jean-Baptiste Allie II
    2. We have had so many great exchanges lately I thought I would try posting my Allie family again. Perhaps one of the new list members will have a match in their files. There are several Allies still living in the area. Jean-Baptiste Allie married in Bourbonnais 1845. His younger brother James was baptized there in 1844 by a missionary priest from Joliet. The family moved to WI, where some of their children were born. They later returned and were members of St Anne Catholic church. Some children were married at St Anne. Sons Edward and Amos later moved to Chicago around 1900. I have hit a dead end on Edward's sons after the 1920 Census: George Allie b: Oct 1879 St Anne IL Walter E. The Holiday Inn was on Ken Hayes Drive (near Armour?). Beth Guertin and I and Audrey Peters and several others were in this place - I swear it! A nice looking Hampton Inn was close by. In the mall was a pretty good Ruby Tuesday's. Holly Forgue chose a pleasant nearby restaurant with excellent food for our group dinner = can't recall the name, but I remember the lasagna! As a suggestion - I think it would be a lot more fun if everyone stayed at the same place - more chance to mingle and swap information and make plans for some joint sight-seeing or visits to the genealogical centers. I don't think the hotel rates are very different from one place to another. I hope some one of you will pick up the reins and do the little organizing that will make that happen - for starters, just collect the names of those who might be there and send eMails so each one is informed. Shucks - I'd love to be there! Cheers to all, Ginny

    2. Hello, Sandy and all others interested: delighted to hear Sandy and family will be Pumpkin-festing it this year! Not sure now how many others will be there - but our own Ardis Boone lives in St. Anne and knows SO MUCH about it and is such a charmer - do get in touch with her at << ardymae@theramp.net >> for more information. She has also heard from a couple of others who will be there: Rick (<< rlongmsw@mtco.com >>) is one, as I recall - should have kept note of the others!!! One of you who will be in St. Anne on that weekend should probably gather the names of the others into a little eMail list, so you can make some plans together - maybe a dinner, visit to libraries, etc. Ardis? Sandy? Rick? I'd love it if you'd keep in touch with me on this, please - I wish I could be there this year and might yet figure out how to do it. Cheers to all, Ginny VCrawf@aol.com Carmel Valley CA USA listowner/administrator, ILSTANNE-L

    3. Hello, I've been recommended to your list by various people that you have helped. I've talked to people on the gen web site and have my inquiries on almost every web site to be seen. I started looking for my family about 4 months ago. So far I haven't had much luck. The name I am looking for is GEORGE J. BOUDREAU, born July 24, 1870 in Kankakee Co. Illinoise, my g-grandfather. On Jan. 20, 1897 he married a woman named Delia M. Langlois. I believe they were married in the same area. They had 9 children born to them before they moved to Minnesota. Had 1 more child while living there. In 1902 my grandfather Euclid, was born in KKK Co. I am trying to find Georges parents. No one in the family that is old enough can remember anything about him. I was beginning to think that maybe he was from the orphanage that was around that area. Please see what you can find for me or let me know of other places I can look. Thank You in advance. 2. I believe I read about some folks making plans to attend the St. Anne Pumpkin Fest in September (22-24). And I think I read a mention of folks staying at the Holiday Inn, north of Kankakee. I now wonder which hotel was referenced. An old Holiday Inn was located just a bit north of Kankakee in Bradley. It had deteriorated and is now being renovated by Comfort Inn (Comfort Suites). I do believe there is a Holiday Inn Express further north of the city (also in Bradley) next to a shopping mall just off Interstate 57. Can anyone enlighten me as to which hotel was being referenced? And, is anyone other than us really planning to visit for the Fest? We will be there along with daughter and grandson. Sandy and Bob The Bovies Lancaster, PA sandy2b@aol.com bobbovie@aol.com

    2. Mike Girou
    3. Thank you very much!! This gives me some clues to follow. There is another mystery that several people in my family have not been able to solve, and I'd welcome suggestions from the group as to how to proceed: My gggfather Julien Giroux came to Bourbonnais in 1851/2 with his wife Marie Angelique Sevigny and several children, including Julien II, Napoleon, Joseph and Mari. They had several more children until Gideon (Jed) was born in 1855. Then, in 1859 Marie Sevigny Giroux married John Tarte, who adopted many of her children. What happened to Julien? We think he died between 1855 and 1859, but there are no death records we've been able to find, either in churches of the area or cemeteries. Several relatives have made trips to the area looking for information, but come back empty-handed. The family seems to have moved to St. Anne by the late 1850's, maybe sooner. Was it common for deaths to go unrecorded in those times? Were private cemeteries popular back then? Any ideas as to where to look to figure out what happened to this fellow? 1. Re: [ILSTANNE] GEREAUX
    2. Mike Girou
    3. Hi Tony, The family name started as Giroux, and some braches ended up spelling it Gereaux. The best general source for the family is Tom Giroux's site at http://home.nycap.rr.com/giroux/ Dave King has some good info on one Kankakee branch on his site http://hometown.aol.com/DJKBoysrus/index.html I know of two major migrations to the Kankakee/St. Anne area from Quebec in the mid 1850's. The first apparently was Timothy Giroux (see Dave King's site) in 1847; I suspect that your ancestor was one his his relatives. The second family seems to have been Julien Giroux in 1851/2; he seems to have died or disappeared sometime between 1855 and 1859. Julien's wife remarried John Tart (sometimes LeTarte) in 1859, and the children either scattered or were raised by Tart. Napoleon was a common name in this branch, as was Julius (Julien) and Mary (Marie). I can't find a 2-year old Francois Xavier in the 1870 Kankakee census, but he may have been with his family in Iriquois County. Quite a few Giroux were in the Beaverville (used to be called St. Mary's) area in the early 1870's. Many of my ancestors went to Iowa, particularly Story County, and I've seen occasional references to Sioux City, Council Bluffs and parts of Nebraska and South Dakota. I'll keep digging, but it would be quite helpful if we had another data point or two. 3. Are those records available online or in a book? There are several entries I've been wanting to see for years.
