If in the future they try to trace us they will have to search from region to region of this country and maybe around the world to find out about us since we tend to move a lot more and so often we live where no other family members live. . And so many pewople go by nicknames and middle names or change their last names cause they "want to" that it may be interesting. And of course so many kids have so many sets of parents from divorces and remarriages that it will be really hard to keep everything straight. The church won't be as much help in researching because so many people are no longer going to church etc. We actually may be the ones who have the easiest time finding our roots. <g> Have a great Labour Day Weekend everyone Rab

    2. Kathleen Eaton
    3. Actually, I was looking for information on my Wheeler line in Aurora, IL and came across this information that I thought might be of interest to some of this list. There is a picture of the house and the following information at: http://www.ci.aurora.il.us/preservation/ 14. Beaupre House, 1897 323 S. Lincoln Ave. (Aurora, IL) A fine example of Shingle Style architecture is the William Beaupre House which dates from 1897. Features such as the steeply pitched gable roof, recessed balcony, and masonry first story with shingled walls above are hallmarks of this style which was first popularized in New England resort towns. Beaupre was president of Aurora National Bank and organized Kane County Title and Abstract Company. The third floor of the home was used as a ballroom. Map K. Eaton keaton@stny.rr.com

    2. In response to BobinMonterey's questions regarding Marie Delice Delina BEAUPRE who married Joseph Zotique "Paul" SPENARD: 1) Her birth date according to the Southeastern Section Cemetery Book (St. Anne Catholic Cemetery) was November 14, 1851. She died August 18, 1898 according to that source as well as an obituary which follows that was kindly provided to me by Barbara and Jack Davidson, another couple researching the SPENARD line. 2) Obituary of Joseph Zotique "Paul" Spenard: Paul's Obituary: This was sent to us (Barbara and Jack DAVIDSON) in the late 70's by Ann SPENARD USIEWICZ of Kankakee, IL. "This is the write_up that was in the newspaper"_Ann SPENARD USIEWICZ (What paper and what date is not known_JAD) AN OLD SETTLER GONE Joseph Paul SPENARD (Joachim_1, Abdon_2_JAD), who died Friday March 27th 1914 emigrated from Canada with his parents in the year 1856. They landed in St. Anne in the fall of that year, on the first day of Nov. and settled on a farm about 5 1/2 miles east of St. Anne where his father died when Paul was only a little boy. With a cou(r)age seldom possessed by many older people, he managed by hard work to support his aged mother and two sisters. Paul SPENARD was born at St. Pierre, Lebequets, Province of Quebec, in the year 1846, the 31st day of October. He married Delia BEAUPRE Dec. 26, 1870 and a large family was born to them comprising three boys and six girls, living as follows: George SPENARD, Edward of Kankak(ee), Joseph of Chicago Heights, Mrs. Julia FRANKS of Pittsburgh, PA; Mrs. George BREAULT, of Chebanse, Mrs. Eugene SPRIMO(?)T Jr. of St. Anne: Mrs. Pete PELLETIER and Mrs. Adelore SHOVEN of Kankakee and Adele the youngest girl kept house for her father at the time of his death. Three girls died when young. Anna died Aug. 4, 1898, she was 10 yr. old. Marie Antoinette 4 yr. and a young baby. His wife died Aug. 18, 1898 and since has kept house with his youngest daughter, Adele, who is twenty_two years old. By the departure and death of Joseph Paul SPENARD the children are losing a kind and tender father, who toiled and labored until death for the welfare of his family, and the people of St. Anne are loosing one of their most honest and respectable citizens. It can be said of him as it is said of Abraham Lincoln as 'Honest Old Abe', 'Honest Old Paul' he has been a good and fervent member of the Catholic church, all of his life, he served as sexton and Janitor of the church for about fifteen years which position he had at the time of his death. He belonged to two insurance orders namely Catholic Foresters and the St. Joseph order in each of which he carried $1000 insurance. The funeral took place Monday, March 30th at 10 o'clock, an immense crowd attend the service to pay their last tribute to the beloved father and friend."

Everyone - these snippets we run into could be pure gold for someone, and we all benefit to a greater or lesser extent. Where found, please do put them on-list. Merci! 1. [ILSTANNE] Bourbonnais note
    2. Richard Graveline
    3. A bit of local history from the current issue of National Geographic. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Martin, a Marysville package-store owner with a white mustache and a cowboy hat to match, told me that his great-grandfather had made the trek with some forty-niners, probably camping nearby, as many did, at Alcove Spring. During a layover to rest the caravan's mules, Martin and I slipped away and found the place much as the emigrants might have in the 1840's. A large spring, one traveler had noted, "gushed from a ledge of rocks...from which falls a beautiful cascade of water." Although the writer went on, it was "one of the most romantic spots I ever saw." At the edge of the cascade Ken Martin was telling me about his ancestor, Simon Oliver Martin of Bourbonnais, Illinois. "He took off from St. Joe in April of 1849, so that's why in 1999 I basically wanted to follow his footsteps. He went out there and panned for gold northeast of Yosemite for about four years before he came back East." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Graveline

    2. Hiya, Carol Anne! My grandpa Edward HEBERT's older sister Eleanor HEBERT married Earl HUBERT. I don't know who his parents were, but I know that they lived on a 40-acre farm until 1977 (well, he died in 1969? Eleanor sold the farm to my dad in 1977) in Limestone Twp., about 3/4 mile from Limestone Grade School. I don't know what the current address is, but it used to be RR4 BOX 377. They had 19 (yes, 19) children (no twins, triplets or other multiples!). I tried to check the 1917 Kankakee County Farmer's Directory, but didn't see any HUBERTs with a son named Earl. :o( Oh yeah, Earl was born 18 Dec 1904 (I assume in Kankakee County) and died in Oct 1969 according to the SSDI. I don't know if this helps or not. I'm sorry I can't help with Pierre HUBERT. Bren Hey! 2. Last month, I said I would be visiting St. Anne and asked for suggestions. Thanks to all who replied. We had a mini-Bonvallet reunion and toured the sights. PA Bonvallet Sons, established by my great grandfather, is still in business. It was interesting to visit the farm operations in the area. They were happy to get visitors. For those of you planning a trip for the Pumpkin Festival, I will pass along some things I learned: Bourbonnais appears to be a healthy city, while Kankakee is not. I would advise staying in Bourbonnais. The records of the KKK Valley Genealogical Society are in the Bourbonnais Public Library. They were very helpful, giving me a map and letting me make copies on the honor system. The KKK Public Library is not the ideal place to settle down for a day, but they do have a large genealogy section as well as the KKK newspapers on microfilm (and some on paper). Information on hours, etc. for both libraries is on their respective web sites. The KKK County Historical Society does not have open research facilities, but the staff was willing to bring me material and to make copies. They say that the KKK County Community College has microfilm of the KKK newspapers and is a nice place to work. The Historical Society has an exhibit on the early days of the County, which I recommend. I understand that the Saga of St. Anne will be reprinted as originally written, and a revised version will bring the story from where the Saga ends up to today. I hope everyone's trip is as nice as mine was. Ken Bonvallet
