    3. Hi Brenda, I was courious about Peter Beck & Julie Gervais (married April 23, 1844 in Napierville, QC, Canada) also as Julie is the sister of my Soloman Gervais. I have his parents as Pierre Beck & Josephte Juneau. But this is information I received from someone, I have not researched it. I wonder if Rolayne's Peter Beck and mine are one and the same? I don't know when Julie died. Brenda Hbert wrote:Welcome, Rolayne! Well, looks like you fit right in, even if you have a bit of the Scandinavian blood in you. I hope you did better than me and inherited at least an inch or two of height from the Scandinavian side, unlike me (I'm 1/8 Norwegian with several female cousins over 6' tall and a great-great-grandmother who it was said was 6' tall!). I inherited the short stature from all my OTHER nationalities. Although, I guess I inherited BIG FEET from either the French-Canadian or German or Irish side -- it came from Dad's side, that's all I know. (He is 5'6" with size 10EEE feet -- I'm 5'2" with 10W feet -- but when I go out, or sing I get HIGH heeled shoes to use some of my feet to give me more height. Albert Ledoux' book French Canadian Families of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties, Illinois, at the end of his book he gives possible marriages from Qubec Parish records for some of the early French-Canadian settlers of Kankakee and Iroquois counties. He gives these: BECK, Peter (??) & Julienne GERVAIS, 23-4-1844, Napierville. BOURQUE, Pierre & Josephte ARCHAMBAULT, 6-5-1821, St-Roch/Achigan (that would be 6 May 1821) I checked the Illinois Marriage Database online to see if there was a marriage for Peter BECK & Salome CLOUTRE, but didn't find one (in case the marriage between Peter BECK & Julienne GERVAIS was a first marriage and the one with Salome was a second marriage that occurred here in the U.S. -- of course not ALL early Illinois marriages are in there). I have the feeling that I didn't find anything you hadn't found. I would recommend also subscribing to the [email protected] -- it's very large with a lot of helpful people on it. They had a daughter Alice who was adopted. Yes they were living in Kansas, but Louis moved back to Kankakee and died there on April 15, 1920. Rosalie was the daughter of Henry and Prudence and died Jan 11, 1895 at Palmer, Kansas. Louis and Philippe Roy had farms across the road from each other near Palmer, Washington County, Kansas in the late 1800's. I have a copy of the plat map for Washington County that shows both farms. Philippe Roy was married to Zelia Cyre. Zelia (Cyre) Roy and Louisa (Cyre) Benoit were sisters. Their parents were Joseph Cyre and Adelaide Ponton who are both buried in St. Joseph, Cloud County, Kansas. I show that Henry Benoit and Louisa (Cyre) Benoit were the parents of 13 children and moved from Washington County to Clyde, Cloud County, Kansas and then to Rooks County, Kansas. Show Henry's parents also as Henry and Prudence. Show Henry and Prudence as being married Nov 8, 1842 at St Mathias, Quebec. Show Henry and Prudence also having two other children, Fesel still living in 1880 and Joseph who died on Feb 19,1903 at St Joseph, Kansas. Show his parents as Ignace Benoit and Charlotte Monty who were married Feb 17, 1817 at Chambly, Quebec and her parents as Francois Desnoyers and Prudence Goguet who were married Sept 30, 1823 at Marieville, Quebec. So Prudence's mother was also Prudence. When I was growing up in Clyde, Kansas in the 1950's and 1960's, Alphonse Benoit (son of Henry and Louisa) visited a lot with my grandfather Philip Roy (son of Philippe and Zelia). Alphonse and Philip both in their 70's and 80's by now would have been first cousins and each lived with one of their daughters only a half block from each other in Clyde. Dennis >>

Prior to that no one even knew the CLOUATRE name or that my ggrandmother (AGNES) had any siblings. What a pleasant discovery. Any info or leads would be greatly appreciated. Most interested in original spelling of BECK name that would enable me to back into Montreal records and start trying to trace the family back. Family lore has it that PIERRE'S parents came from France but nothing to substantiate that. Also trying to trace the family forward to find living relatives. Have discovered a Ryan cousin in Watseka which was wonderful. Thanks so much for adding me to your list! 3. In the event someone in not aware where the town of Wygandt/Weygandt is located, I will quote from Beckwith: Weygandt Township renamed Papineau Township. These French people did not like the name of Weygandt. It was too decidedly Dutchy. The pronunciation of words ending in "ndt" was impossible to French lips. PAPINEAU was a leader of the rebellion in Canada against the English government in 1837, and as such is looked upon by the French citizens as a hero not unlike John Brown. That he was not successful does not deprive him of the veneration of those he attempted to lead. It is remembered of him that he rode through some of the principal towns of Canada, carrying a flag and calling on those who would be free from the English yoke to follow his flag. For this treason he barely escaped the gallows. PAPINEAU was born October, 1786, and died September 23, 1871. The people who reside here, some of whom were admirers of the leader, decided to name this town after him. This rebellion in 1837 and 1838, through being aided by certain citizens of the United States, became the source of belligerent talk between the governments of Great Britain and this country. The destruction of the Caroline, by the murder of her passengers and firing and sending over Niagara Falls, followed by the arrest of McLeod for the crime, his defense by the attorney-general of the United States, and his acquittal, make one of the most exciting chapters in our country's history. 2. Cindy-- Apparently there are different branches of the Benoit family. I don't have the Benoits that you named, but in case you come across Augustin Benoit Sr., father of Augustin Jr., father of Elizabeth Benoit (my great-grandmother, a.k.a. Memère Baron), please let me know. So many relatives, so little time. --bob in monterey

    3. Hello: Well, if your Henry was married in 1878, then he is not the Henry found by Brenda, but then she did not have any dates to go by. And I can also see some descrepancies that you refered to. The Prudence Benoit, nee Desnoyer and daughter of Francois, died May 12, 1904. She was born August , 1824. (From book printed by Cloud County Genealogical Society. Her death is also recorded in the St Joseph Church Records (Cloud County) as recorded by Bob Gieber. Now when Rose Benoit married Louis Roy , the St Mary's church records stated that she is the daughter of Honore Benoit and Onesime Desnoyer. Below you stated that the mother of Henry was a Lizzie Denoyer. So now we have three Desnoyer's, Prudence, Onesime and Lizzie. I suspect that these three are not the same person but then again they could be. I believe that Bob Gieber used to moniter this list. If you do not here from any Benoits or from someone else, I will send you his email address although it may not be current. Bob had recorded some church records in Washington County so he may have some information pertinent to your search. One thing you might do is to have the Cloud County Genealogical Society look up an obituary for Prudence. Their research rates are very reasonable. 3. Henry Benoit married Louisa Cyre in Kimeo, KS in 1878 and they are in the 1880 census for Washington Co. According to Henry's death sertificate he was born in Kankakee, Ill. in 1851, His mother's name was Lizza denoyer/denoire. I found a Lizzie Denoyer in the KVGS Co. Death Records Index, I don't know if this is the same person since her name is Prudence on the Kansas census records. I think Henry's father had died before they moved to Kansas.I haven't found him on any census records for Ill. He supposedly had only one sister which is still in debate with some relatives. Her name is Rosalie (Benoit) Roy, she was born in St. Gregoire, Can in 1848 and married Louis Aime Roy in 1867 in St. Mary, Beaverville, Iroquois, Il., they had one daughter, Alice. They also appear in the 1880 Kansas census. I hope this helps it would really help to finally put this peice of the puzzle in its place. You stated that the father's name was "Norris". There is no French name of Norris, but it does sound like Narcisse which IS a French name. I also know from experience that one Anglization of the name Narcisse is "Nelson", soooooo that being said, this is what I found in "French-Canadian Families of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties, Illinois" by Rev. 3. As far as I know, Fr. Ledoux does not plan on running another printing of the book. He just ran a second printing about a year ago, but only ordered 1 or 2 copies more than were pre-ordered, and I believe those were snatched up right away, too. 2. Brenda Hébert
    3. I just thought of something after rereading my reply. If the ST.PIERRE family isn't Jane's family, it COULD possibly be that Eliza ST.PIERRE is a sister of Narcisse BENOIT. Or of course, the families may not be related at all. I have seen lots of instances where siblings live near each other and sometimes with each other even after one or more are married. Also, I checked the Illinois marriages database online, but couldn't find a marriage for a Narcisse nor Nelson nor Norris BENOIT (of course, it would be nice if one could search that database by firstname). I hope I didn't sound too critical in my last response. Welcome to the List! And hope that the finding in French-Canadian Families helped! BrenGet more from the Web.
