I've heard it said before, that after 12 generations everyone is related. No wonder we are all finding the same people in our "lines" here and there along the way! Great "Family" we have here though-I wouldn't trade this list for a million others! Hello: From the book "Burt E. Burroughs: Annotated The Story of Kankakee's Earliest Pioneer Settlers." "From this work of L'Abbe Fanning..." "His (Noel) Father, Antoine LeVasseur, is spoken of as one of those brave, cultivated Canadians, remarkable for their uprightness, religious spirit, habits of industry and attachment to the soil. His mother, born Angilique Lavelle, was possessed of all the attributes and qualities of the robust, industrious woman." I received an e-mail off the list from a Steven LaValle who has the baptismal entry for Nol LeVASSEUR and his twin brother Antoine. They were baptized 24 Dec 1898 and "n de ce jour" (that does mean born that day, n'est-ce pas?) He also stated that he had Michel as Nol's brother, but doesn't know where he found the information. I am awaiting an answer to my query about the marriage of Michel LeVASSEUR & Luce JOYAL, hopefully that will have the answer. :o) Bren __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Merci beaucoup, Jack! Okay, so Nol and Michel are somehow brothers, and Clemence (who married Antoine ARPIN) must be a distant cousin. :o) Bren __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/
Brenda The biographical sketch of Noel Levasseur, published in1893 does not list any parents for Noel. His death records at MBVM only shows the witnesses at his death as P.Monast et Frederic Levasseur on 16 Dec 1879, age 81. I believe P.Monest was a Doctor and his son in law. Accordingly Noel was born in a log cabin at St.Michel D'Yamaska,QP,on Christmas night of the year 1799.His parents, who were French-Canadians,were poor and unlettered and lived in a rude way in the wilds of a sparsley settled region. Without a penny and only his clothes in his seventeenth year set out to seek his fortune. In 1837,Mr.Le vasseur married Ruth Bull of Danville and they had 8 children. The cemetery records of MBVM show Noel Levasseur, birn 1799,died 1879. INSCRIPTION reads . In memory of the first white settler in Kankakee County. a Bientot Jack Langlois ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brenda Hébert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 30, 2002 11:30 AM Subject: [ILSTANNE] LeVASSEURs of Kankakee County > Hi! Bonjour Looking for enfants of Antoine Langlois et Marie Angelique Fontaine, marie 17 Apr 1798,St-Pierre-du-sud,Montmagny Co. Possibly at SPS or Ste-Marguerite,L'Acadie. Any aide will be appreciated. a Bientot Jack Langlois
Hi! Salut! Okay, I checked the ILStAnne-L archives, so I MUST be going nuts. I THOUGHT I had read some comment by someone on the list that the parents of Nol LeVASSEUR were known and that he and Michel (or Mitchell) LeVASSEUR were brothers. Am I going nuts? Or has my brain just become too bogged down with genealogical information??? Anyways, there is another LeVASSEUR in early Kankakee County: Clemence LeVASSEUR b. abt 1809 in Qubec, d. 12 Aug 1896 in Bourbonnais, IL. She was the daughter of Jean-Baptiste & Marie CHAUVIN. On 01 Nov 1825 in Chambly, PQ she married Antoine ARPIN. Antoine was b. abt 1795 in Qubec, d. 19 Jun 1882 in Bourbonnais. He was the widower of Charlotte BROUSSEAU. (the source who found Antoine & Clemence's marriage in the Chambly marriage repertoire didn't find his marriage with Charlotte, so at this time Antoine's parents are unknown to me). Antoine & Clemence had the following children (that I know of): Adolphe, Marie-Emerence, Flora, Eustace, Fabien, Emma, Franois-Xavier, Edmund, Godfroy, Philomne, & Joseph. Then Michel LeVASSEUR b. abt 1800 in Qubec, m. 01 Mar 1824 at St-Michel-d'Yamaska, PQ to Luce JOYAL (b. abt 1804 in Qubec) had the following kids (that I know of, but I think I'm missing some between Michel II and lisabeth): Michel II, lisabeth, Leo (f), Levi, Charles & Josephine. Any additions or corrections are welcome. Brenda __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/
I never thought to see if (or how) I'm related to myself...! I find going through the cemetery is like one big family burial plot. It's so interesting and so much FUN! Rick
Gary: You think you have it bad. When I found my BOYDS marrying MULLINS who came from BOYDS who came from MULLINS (Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma), I nearly stopped doing genealogy and started watching "Deliverance". While weeding through these intermarriages amidst expressions of horror, my husband simply said: "That explains a lot." LOL Tracie

It's weird how relationships can develop as we expand our databases. I know that we are finding out how closely related we all are. But what I've found REALLY surprises me... Gary -- My parents weren't related, BUT I found out recently that my son's dad may have some "Cajun" blood, soooo. . . his dad and I may have been related, but didn't know it. I just have to find out who his great-grandmother's parents were, hopefully that will answer some questions. Brenda __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Jan It probably is that the first Joseph died and they had a subsequent son and also named him Joseph . If so then your Joseph was baptised in 1779. It relates only to the baptismal date as they " both had the same parents " and would not affect the genealogy line or have someone verify the bap. date in the PRDH at the Bourbonnais Library or go online for it.
