My great great grandfather Charles Celestine BOUDREAU was born in 1856 and was baptized by Father Charles Chiniquy and his wife Mathilda GIGUERRE born 1863 and was also baptized by Father Chiniquy. However, she was proabably baptized in the Presbyterian Church. Are there any photos or sketches of the Presbyerian church this early in St. Anne? I also, have a photo of Charles and Mathilda taken in Nebraska. Also, a young photo of Charles BOUDREAU'S sister Angeline (taken in Nebraska), but she was born in (St. Anne), Beaverville Township, Iroquious County, in 1861. Thank you, Mary Boudreau

Thanks Sandy...the old church is probably very important to many of us on the list. I will check back tomorrow. Hopefully I can "right click it" and save a copy for my files. Audrey Peters

    2. I keep checking back to see what new photos Bob and Sandy have added to their site. I wonder if anyone knows of a photo of the older St Anne Catholic church prior to 1893? My Allies were baptized in the old church beginning 1858 to 1885. Only one was baptized in the new church in 1895. Photography became popular at the time of the Civil War, so I keep hoping an earlier photo may turn up. Bob & Sandy...keep up the good work of making these old photos available to everyone in our group. Audrey Peters

    3. That is very close to the French way of saying Grand-Mère. The " nd " is silent. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerrian D. 3. Grandma would be Memere (Mémère) pronounced MAY-MARE Some used Grand-Maman Grandpa would be Pepere (Pépère) pronounced PAY-PARE Some used Grand-Papa Now I used the familiar names because that's what you used. If you wanted Grandmother it would be "grand-mere" (grand-mère) This is nearly impossible to explain how to pronounce because the French word "grand" has no equivalent English word sound --- the "a" is a unique French sound and the "nd" are silent If you wanted Grandfather it would be "grand-pere" (grand-père). As many Francophones became anglicized, they varied how they called their grand-parents. I've heard grandma said MEE-MARE, MA-MARE, MEE-MEE and MIM. I've heard grandpa said PEE-PARE, PA-PARE, PEE-PEE and PIP. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 03, 2002 7:23 AM Subject: [ILSTANNE] Grandma?? > I'm looking for the correct french-canadian spelling and pronounciation for > GRANDMA and GRANDPA. 3. Found on the METISGEN-L list... I usually don't pass on sad news like this, but sometimes we need to pause and remember what life is all about. There was a great loss recently. Larry Latthas, the song writer who wrote the "Hokey Pokey" died last week at the age of 83. It was extremely difficult for the family to keep him in the casket. They'd put the left leg in, he'd put his left leg out, they'd put his right leg in....well, you know the rest.

    3. You know how these news stories are always telling us how the present US President is related to the first ones and how they are related to royalty... Well... Everyone is! They are no closer than the average person. The chart below gives you an idea how we are all cousins Sub Total Start with YOU 1st Your parents 2 2 2nd Your grandparents 4 6 3rd gr-grandparents 8 14 4th gr-gr-grandparents 16 30 5th gr-gr-gr-grandparents 32 62 6th fourth gr-grandparents 64 126 7th fifth gr-grandparents 128 254 8th sixth gr-grandparents 256 510 9th seventh gr-grandparents 512 1022 10th eighth gr-grandparents 1024 2048 11th nineth gr-grandparents 2048 4094 12th tenth gr-grandparents 4096 8190 So everyone has 8190 ancestors in 12 generations. And all the siblings of these 8190 are aunts and uncles. And all the children of these aunts & uncles are cousins. Imagine if you calculated back to the 20th generation You would have: 1,048,576 eighteenth gr-grandparents for a total of 2,097,150 direct ancestors ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vickie Buettner" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 01, 2002 1:08 PM > I've heard it said before, that after 12 generations everyone is > related. > No wonder we are all finding the same people in our "lines" here and > there along the way! > Great "Family" we have here though-I wouldn't trade this list for a > million others! > > Vickie (Franker) Buettner >
