    1. [ILSTANNE] searching for Peter Provost family
    2. Cindy Gates
    3. I'm searching for Peter Provost family members. Peter was born on July 7, 1844 in Troy city, Rensselaer Co., NY. From church records in Cloud, Kansas his father's name is Toussaint who was born in Canada, no other info on his father, mother or any siblings he might have. I found him in the 1870 Limestone twnshp, Kankakee, Illinois census as a farm laborer on the Charles Fortin farm. He married Marie Brosseau, daughter of Joseph Brosseau & Marguerite Moreau on Nov. 8, 1871 in St. Anne, Kankakee, Ill. They had seven daughters, Evelyn born 1872, kankakee, died 1854, Concordia, KS, Josephine born 1875 in Kankakee,Ill. died 1951 in Aurora, KS, Edesse born 1877 in Kankakee, Ill., Edmire born 1879 in Aurora, KS died ?, Leah born 1881 in Aurora, KS died 1953 in Aurora, KS, Mary born 1883 in Aurora, KS died ?, Amanda born 1884 died 1884 in Aurora, KS. Marie died about five days after Amanda was born. I have found other Provost names in census records and headstones. The priest in Cly! de, KS told me that all the Provosts in that area are related. It would be nice to about Peter's side of the family. Thanks Cindy

    1. [ILSTANNE] CLOUATRE-COMEAU
    2. I have recently discovered in Family Search files records for what I believe to be my gg grandmothers family. My gg grandmother is Solomee Clouatre (Beck.) Her parents are Marie-Phebee Comeau and Jean Baptiste Clouatre. The records indicate possible other children Clotilde(dob 1817 Canada), Rose (dob 1819 Canada) and Jean Baptiste (dob 1827 Canada). Further, it also appears that at least Rose (Boudreau) and Marie-Phebee at some point ended up in Beaverville, Ill. Still cannot find record of Solomee's birth but should be about 1826 or 1827 in Canada. Looking for other siblings or family members. Also, does anyone know of a source for cemetary records for St. Mary's in Beaverville? Thanks so much Rolayne Nelson

    1. Re: [ILSTANNE] Les: Witness at death ??
    2. Les Arseneau
    3. Jack, No, I can't imagine the witness mentioned in the church records would be the witness at the time of death. He would be the person present at the time of the burial Mass. Also, the cemetery records at every church are maintained by a person separate from the church records. I think the key here is the statement made in the church records, i.e., "........buried in the cemetery of this parish....", if we only had access to all of them. 1. [ILSTANNE] LeVASSEUR, Michel & JOYELLE, Luce
    2. Brenda Hbert
    3. The THIRD TIME should WORK, right???? First I sent this to the list just before 3 p.m. PST, then I JUST TRIED to send it and after I hit "Send" I got "Your login session has expired, please relogin". So both of those e-mails went off somewhere into the cybernetherworld. UGH! Anyways! I promised I would pass along whatever information I received from my query about the marriage of Michel LeVASSEUR & Luce JOYELLE, and here goes (with a BIG THANKS to Blue Drouin and Best Bill of the Quebec-Research-List!!!): Hi Brenda I Saw your posting and found the following........... Michel Levasseur married Luce Joyelle March 1, 1824 at St Michel, Yamaska Michel parents were Antoine Levasseur and Angelique Lavallee Luce parents were Luc Joyelle and Magdeleine Forcier B.D. [Brenda's note: B.D. is Bill's abbreviation for Blue Drouin -- that is where he found the information] Best Bill I hope this helps someone somewhere! Now we have a definite connection between Nol LeVASSEUR and Michel (or Mitchell) LeVASSEUR -- they are brothers. They also have at LEAST one other sibling, Nol's twin brother Antoine. 3. I'm just curious, was there more than one Benoit family maybe unrelated? My great grandfather was Henry Benoit and his wife was Louise Cyre, they had 12 children between 1881 and 1904, the youngest, Albert Benoit was my grandfather. I've found a Napolean Benoit family in both census and cemetary records in Cloud , Kansas but was told by relatives that there is no relation. I found this odd since both families seemed to have come from the same areas in Canada, Illinois and then Kansas. Maybe you could shed some light on this. Is Benoit maybe a common name like Smith? 1. [ILSTANNE] Les: Witness at death ??
    2. Jack Langlois
    3. Les Thanks for the response. I have found that the burial records of the churches are saying generally that there was a funeral mass for an individual and gives the death date. If so the witness mentioned in the church records would be the witness at the time of death ?? The death records of MBVM as well as St Patricks church in Momence are seperate than the cemetery records generally maintained by the sexton. The Sexton's records shows who was actually buried and the plot. Just because they were buried at MBVM cemetery does not mean that they had a funeral mass was at MBVM. Church. Another example is St.Joseph in Manteno here thay had a mass but internment was at St.George Cem. Seems one needs a score card and a big eraser to discern iinformation. a Bientot Jack Langlois : Re: [ILSTANNE] Witness at death ?? > Hi Jack, > > In attending the Fall conference of the ACGS in Manchester, NH, we had a > speaker who talked about researching the vital records of our ancestors. > The subject of witnesses at the baptisms, marriages & burials was addressed > and she made the point that witnesses at BURIALS are NOT necessarily related > to the subject of the records. 3. Hi Jack, In attending the Fall conference of the ACGS in Manchester, NH, we had a speaker who talked about researching the vital records of our ancestors. The subject of witnesses at the baptisms, marriages & burials was addressed and she made the point that witnesses at BURIALS are NOT necessarily related to the subject of the records. I am also finding this to be true in my work on transcribing the St. Mary's of Beaverville parish records. The same name appears on every burial record. I would assume that the person worked at the church as a grave digger or in some other capacity. Hope I have been helpful Les ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack Langlois" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 11, 2002 9:56 AM Subject: [ILSTANNE] Witness at death ?? > Bonjour > I have noticed on the Maternity BVM death records 1853-1890 that the names > of certain individuals keep appearing as witnesses. 3. Oh, very sorry about that last post -- didn't realize the HTML in my email program would read like that. Anyway, Damase Benoit was my great great grandfather. I don't know about the practice of witnesses, but I will ask my dad what he knows about this. ~~ Lyn (Benoit) Goodnight
