    3. Of interest to many... ******************************** Greetings Fellow Researchers: The intent of this message is to let folks know that the Northeastern Ontario Canada Gravemarker Gallery is now on a different server and the URL is in effect now. The old site will remain working for a matter of a few short days and folks will be then be redirected to the new URL. The new URL is shown as a link under my signature block below. Please change the URL in your "Favourites" section in your browser. Please pass on the new URL to folks you know who use the site on a regular basis....! The new site is "Ad free" which is nice and it also means some of the moving text marquees have been discontinued and a few other cosmetic changes have been made....! Otherwise the site is identical to the original site. If you find any glitches please let me know as soon as possible....! Best regards....Murray Pletsch Northeastern Ontario Canada Gravemarker Gallery http://nocgg.maddoc.net

    1. [ILSTANNE] Off Subject - Time Capsule Website
    2. Hi Listers A long time ago, someone wanted a site where you could find out what day (06/26/1875) someone was born on, someone on another listed posted one. Sorry, if you already have this site, but some may not. Besides the date, it tells you the headlines, cost of things that day, songs, hot toys, who was President; and some famous person who was born on that day. This may not be exactly a genealogy time site, but I found it interesting. It does list the cost of things and songs for 1885, but didn't for 1875, so it has its limits, but you will get to find out the day your ancestor was born. So, far 1875 is the earliest that I have checked, because I wanted to share this site. http://dmarie.com/timecap/ Mary B

I think that would be of interest to all St Anners as it would be a glimpse of the past for us. Deeds and records make nice documentation, but tell us little about the real people. Personal letters are SO much better. Audrey Peters

I'll be writing about them again, to let the list know of any other surnames mentioned (other than Chiniquy and Guertin, that is) - on the off chance some other one of us will have a connection. When I releazed that A. Chiniquy was Achille Chiniquy, gr gr grandfather of Ginny, I let her know and while Bob bid on the 2 letters that were being auctioned off at E-bay, I contacted the seller and was able to purchase 7 more letters that she had. All the original letters have been passed onto Ginny to be kept by her and her family. You are right, Audrey, what a thrill it is to find and own personal letters from your own reletives. Carol Anne

They have notified us of photos, personal letters, land deeds, birth certificates, etc that were being offered for sale. The best of all an old 1800's album of family photos that sold for only $10. What a treasure that was for the bidder who was a descendant from that family. I purchased an letter dated 1840 for only $5....written from my g-g-g-grandfather's sister to their younger brother. 3. To add to Gary's suggestions, which are very good ones, may I suggest that everyone contact their Internet Service Provider, i.e., AOL, Earthlink, etc., and see if they have, or are going to have, Virus Protection built into their system. I have been using AT&T as my ISP for many years and they have recently installed the Norton www.Symantec.com virus protection program into their system. This means that they catch & delete the virus BEFORE it gets to my system. All that I see is a message that they have caught the virus. They are VERY competitive in their pricing plans, especially if you have AT&T as your local or long distance phone provider, then you can get unlimited Internet access for $16.95 per month. Their website for downloading ordering their software is: http://help.att.net/care/ccforums/newusers/order-software.html I am NOT promoting AT&T, simply offering them as an option. It is again time to remind everyone about a few things that happen this time of year. Many newbies will be getting computers for Christmas and we will be most likely be seeing new subscribers that are not familiar with the lists and many that are just getting the basics mastered on the new computer. I'd like to remind everyone to please be patient with those that are new to the lists, genealogy and computers. They will be feeling that same excitement we all felt when we took our first tour of the net and started our search for family. The excitement of wanting to find anything about my family most likely drove everyone else crazy, until I learned that this was not going to fall in my lap in a few days. She sent it to everyone until someone told her kindly that she needed to check things out before sending the hoaxes on to others. It is also the season for many virus/worms to turn up. I am not sure if the people that program these virus/worms feel the need to work overtime or we get a lot of new people just getting online for the first time with their new computers and they are not aware of the virus/worm problems and how bad it can get until they get the hang of what they need to do to protect their computers. Soooo, I am once again asking everyone to take the time to update their anti-virus programs and keep them updated as often as possible for the next few weeks, the best education we can give the new folks is by example. I am also asking everyone that does not have an anti-virus program to please get one and install it. There is a good variety of programs that can be downloaded and used right away. There are some that require a fee, others are free and some you can log onto and run while online. As I said then: yes, a virus can invade one's address list and then send virus-carrying messages, with the messages appearing to be from familiar sources. (This is in addition to the the known possibility of ATTACHMENTS carrying viruses - not a worry on RootsWeb.) The RootsWeb virus protection system is hard at work intercepting these tainted messages and deleting them. This happened once before, we all laid low, and eventually the threat passed. Yes, it is a pain. If you are on the Quebec list, Gary Bouvin just sent a long message with information about this problem, urging everyone to get his or her virus protection program up to speed. An excellent letter - please heed! If anyone has other comments about viruses and/or this particular threat, please write to me directly at < [email protected] > with the word DIRECT in the subject line. I am definitely not a techie, but will help if I can. Ginny

    1. [ILSTANNE] A Genealogist's Christmas
    2. Merry Christmas to All Audrey Peters A Genealogist's Christmas (author unknown) "Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote It sank in a storm on an ill fated boat." Stacks of old copies of Wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's Wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer; I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and old Santa Claus too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at our roof with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned. As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a a great Santa Hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team which then rose like the down of a thistle And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!"

    3. Merry Christmas to all! I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book. And every year at Christmas time I go and take a look. This is when I realize that these names are a part, not of the book they are written in, but of my very heart. For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime, and in that meeting, they have become the Rhythm of the Rhyme. And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim, I really feel I am composed, of each remembered name. And while you may not be aware of any special link; just meeting you shaped my life, much more than you think. For once you have met someone, the years cannot erase the memories, of a pleasant word, or of a friendly face. So never think my Christmas Greeting is just a mere routine, of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between. For when I send a Christmas Greeting, that is addressed to you, it is because you are on that list of folks, I am indebted to. For I am but a total of the many folks Ive met, and you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget. And whether I have known you for many days or few, in some way you had a part in shaping things I do. Every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew, The biggest gift life can give is meeting folks just like you. May the Spirit of Christmas, that forever and ever endures; love is the richest blessings in the heart of you and all of yours. Author: anonymous --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
