Hello Shelby Co. list I am at a loss, up against a brickwall. I have been researching my Poteet ancestors since 1996 and have come up with a big zero. I have been able to find my gggGrandfather, Isaac Poteet, arriving in Shelby County around 1827. With him were two sons, Barney and John. Barney had a son born 1843 in Rose township he named Isaac. Isaac married Isabel Valentine, the daughter of Levi Valentine. They had a boy named Robert Newton Poteet who is my gGrandfather. Does anyone have information on these families? Isaac came to Illinois first to Pope County from Williamson County Tennessee. Then to Shelby County.
