Rice Daniel named their second son Robert McLaughlin Daniel. Often times, the mother's maiden name would be used in naming a child. Perhaps Spencer C. Rice's wife, Nancy was a McLaughlin and perhaps her father was Robert McLaughlin. So when you research Spencer, look to see if there are any McLaughlins in the area also. This is just a thought.
