    3. Just learned that my great grandfather Oscar LeGrand, listed as age 2 in 1880 Shelby County Ill census was orphaned around the age 8, along with a sister Adela (age under 1yr in 1880 census) and a newborn baby brother Henry Lewis Legrand. Their mother Elizabeth Baines Legrand is believed to have died during childbirth of Henry in Aug 1885. Then, just about one year later, their father George H. LeGrand passes away (cause unknown at the moment). So here are three small children orphaned. I believe sis Adela could have been adopted or placed with family/foster family, last name changed , therefore is hard for me to trace at this time. Have found living descendants of newborn Henry. But further information as to his life is yet unknown, in fact this living descendant was unaware of the other family members. (But with snail mail, plan to remedy that soonest). What information would anyone have regarding names of orphanages, foster care programs thru churches during the late 1880's early 1900's timeframe in and around Shelby County? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Debbie
