Sue, From the Church Directory of the Methodist Episcopal Church Tower Hill Ilinois 1900.: "The Methodist Church in Tower Hill was organized thirty-five years ago. On the evening of the 13th day of May, 1865 the first sermon was preached by Rev. W. J. Boone, from the text: 'There is therfore now no condemnation to them which are in christ Jesus, who walk not after.......' Boone was then traveling the Shelbyville Circuit which consisted of the following fifteen appointments with Tower Hill:--Buck's Castle, Mahoney School House,White's School House, Todd's Point, Rose Bud, Friddley School House, Prairie Bird, Knobs Church, Tower Hill, Robert's School House, Pleasant Valley, torrence School House, Black Log and Rural School House. This was then known as a 'four week's circuit.' The records show that the Circuit paid a salary of $475 and of this amount Tower Hill paid $45. The same year Tower Hill paid $11.50 for Missions. In 1868 Tower Hill Circuit was organized and has grown until the Circuit consisting of but two appointments has a membership of 275. Two church buildings have been built by this Society, the old frame building which a few years ago, was sold to the Christian Church and but recently torn down and the brick building which was built during the pastorate of Rev. J. B. Martin at a cost of about $6,000. " There is a list of pastors and members. There are no Baines or Headys listed. Also the Presbyterian Church. I believe that Henry K. Thanks so much for the information on the Methodist Episcopal Church! It helps, just wish they had been listed but then it could be that Alta was the one who went to the Methodist Church and not Charley, in fact she did as I just re-read the information from Tower Hill. IF it is the right Family, Charles married probably in CA and had several children one of which was Alta!! No idea if he ever told his wife that he had been engaged before. This is just getting started. I'm actually looking for George Baines and think he was either an older son or a nephew of Henry K. Also hoping to learn what the K stood for.
