My ancestors, Spencer and Nancy Rice had died prior to 1860 in Shelby County. I do know that Spencer and Nancy had a daughter, Arminta Rice, who married Hiram Hopkins. The six yrs old Manuel Hopkins who was with this family in 1850 Shelby County was possibly their grandson. But I did not find any record in the Illinois State Marriage Index of an Arminta Hopkins who married a Johnston. So I'm still in the dark as to the Rice and Johnston relationship.
