I've done so many lookups for this list that I'm hoping someone will help me with something I need. If anyone is planning a visit to the IL State Historical Library at Springfield sometime in the future, I need some obituaries copied. I have the name, date and page number and newspaper name. I don't live in IL and don't think it is fair that I should have to pay $10 per request just because I don't live in the state. Anyway I can't afford it either! I'll gladly reimburse for copy costs though. Thanks, Sue
Sue, I live in St. Louis, but I've been working on my Flat Branch connections--Denton, mainly, but also Tolly, Armstrong, Casey, etc. I was planning a trip to the area sometime after Thanksgiving, and I would be happy to look for whatever you need. Just let me know. Sue, I agree that $10 per request is high, especially when it is for out-of-state requests and they charge less for in-state requests. If you can't find someone willing to do the lookups for you, I have a suggestion. You might try your local library and request interlibrary loans of the microfilms of the newpapers you have names and dates of. Not sure the cost of these loans, but I think it's just cost of mailing the films back and forth. Or you might want to check a website called Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. It may have volunteers in Springfield that would be willing to do the lookups at no charge. The URL is http://raogk.rootsweb.com/listing.htm.
