    1. [ILSHELBY] 1865 IL State Census

    3. I was wondering if anyone on the List could help me. I have learned there was a state census conducted for IL in 1865. Would anyone have access to the census and be able to do a lookup for me or be able to tell me if it is on line somewhere? I am trying to locate the whereabouts of my 2nd G-Grandparents William and Penelope Lineback-WEBB around this time frame. I can document them in Howard Co., IN on 21 March 1862 (from a real estate transaction - sold a Hotel in Russiaville, IN) and I can document them in Okaw Twp, Shelby Co., IL in Dec. 1868 (from Court Records). It is during this 6 1/2 year time frame that I have lost them. I am trying to determine when they left Howard Co., IN for Shelby Co., IL. William WEBB was b. abt. 1816 in IN - would have been abt 49 in 1865. Penelope was b. 6 Dec 1816 in IN. Children still at home in 1865: Louisa b. abt 1847 IN Martin Holden b. 16 Mar 1849 IN Reuben H. b. abt 1852 IN William L. b. 1854 IN Benjamin Franklin b. 30 Mar 1858 (my G-Grandfather) Any help or thoughts would be deeply appreciated. Bill in TX

Hello Bill, I would encourage you to borrow the film for SLC to your local family history library. The film # is 972,767 for Shelby County, Illinois. It only lists the name for the head of household but, has some other useful information also. To the best of my knowledge, there is no index. Here is a sample entry from my family: 1865 Illinois State Census - Shelby County, Ash Grove Township (SLC FHL 972,767) page 25, line 2 Louisa Storm 1 fwm <10, 2 fwm 10-20, 1 fwf 10-20, 1 fwf 40-50, $300 livestock value, $300 grain value, $50 other agriculture value, 20 lbs wool Note: I do not have a copy of the film, I borrowed a copy from SLC a few years ago. It is quite readable. cheers, Vicki
