Jan Do you know anything about the Fortner family? I do Limestone Co. TX genealogy & there were some Holts or Favors that showed up in Limestone Co. & they married Fortner women. Pat, there may be a connection. the fortners were early pioneers to the area in Illinois that my family was from Shelby county. This branch of Fortners, I think, came from NC to Tenn. then to Shelby county in 1820's. Micajah Fortner's daughter Ruth married Moses Reed and they located on section 23 in Shelbyville township. The Greens were neighbors Felix green married Milly Reed and William Green married Annis Fortner and they might have migrated with the Griffiths. my gggrandmother Elenor Green married John Griffith. The Griffiths also came same migration route NC> Tenn >to Shelby co two of the Griffiths Obadiah and Tolbert I just recently found out,migrated to Texas after 1850. Some of the Fortners might have gone with them who knows. All of these surnames intermarried in the 1830-1850 time period in Shelby county Illinois.
