Is there a reference library or otherwise that I could find out about these births? I am not in the US. Thanks!
Thanks, I believe yours is the same one. I thought Viola's husband's name was Larry CROWE. The POFFENBERGER were related to my MOSE & HIMES lines. http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/Bcookiegma Beverly (HIMES) BARGER > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vh.2ADE/50.209 > Message Board Post: > Regarding Viola Crowe, my great uncle, Forrest Crowe was married to a Viola, I believe I have some old pictures, I believe she died & he married Eilene. Does someone on this list have access to the 1865 state census? And would they be willing to do a lookup for me? I'm looking for someone who might have been in Shelby Co or Cook Co, depending on which source I believe. N.S. BASTION/BASTIAN/BASTON--he shows up on censuses all three ways. And his first name shows up as Nicholas S. his correct initials, or U.S. He was b. 1808 in NY. He was a minister. wife Eunice J. Her name gets butchered even worse on transcripts-- Elizabeth J, E. Jane, Unca. b. 1828 OH. She was listed as a teacher in 1870. Children: Jennie (Jane) b. 1854 Iowa Myra (Mary) b. 1857 Iowa Nicholas (S) b. 1859 Ill Eunice J (same problems as her mother) b. 1863 Ill Since I really don't know for sure where they were in 1865, it is important to me to find out. So I would be very appreciative of someone checking it out for me. Thanks so much, Doris Waggoner Seattle
Ooops my typo sorry. I should have typed 1820 fo William Lewis DONNEL instead of 1822. I believe Elizabeth JARNAGAN was the wife of John Mabry DONNEL. I just spent the afternoon in downtown Shelbyville after working on more details of the Lithia Springs (Illinois) Conference and found some real treasures -- but didn't buy! The Wooden Nickel and, believe it or not, a place called Ceramics Plus have bunches of photographs, yearbooks, and other historical items for sale related to: Findlay Illinois Shelbyville Illinois Rock Family Shuff Family Lots of German postcards Middlesworth families (the town) Cowden Tower Hill I don't get down there very often, but they have some real finds. And one of the Wooden Nickel vendor's has really superb quality Roycrofters books for shockingly reasonable prices. Just a thought.....and, no, I am afraid I am unable to go shopping for you! Judy
You're right. Close but no cigar. My William Lewis Donnel b. 22 Jan 1820 in Rutherford Co., TN is the son of John Mabry Donnel, b. abt 1803 in TN. Back then and I guess even now, census takers did not spell the names as they should so I thought this may be helpful. By the way, one of ggg grandfather's son (unnamed) but had an nephew named Allen Jones settle in Shelby County, Illinois in the 1840's. Along with them, came 2 of my great grandfathers girls named Amanda Jones and Christian (Chrissey, Chrissy?) Jones who married up there as well. Amanda married a Hilliard and Chrissy married a Eli Lowery, Lowry?. These 2 daughters were the children of William Jones b. Virginia, lived in Montgomery County, NC along with his father Charles Jones. Charles Jones was in the Montgomery County Militia here in North Carolina. He resigned in 1802 to the General Assembly as the Colonel and I was able to get a copy of this. I suspect that he was granted a huge number of acres for his service time during the revolutionary was and moved on west to Tennessee. William Jones stayed but is not there on the 1840 census of Montgomery County, North Carolina but still had land holdings there. I suspect he as well with with Mary moved on to Tennessee or Illinois. William's daughters I would not think would have gone to Illinois without their parents especially during that time period. William Jones died in 1846 the same day that his son James Jones died. Mary Jones, William's wife died in 1845. This info came from some handed down info. As of this date, I have not been able to find out where they died (what state) nor located any kind of will or estate. I am hoping that some folks in the Shelby County, Illlinois area may be decendended from this this family and will contact me. If you are, please do and maybe we can get these missing pieces filled in! Thank you! Charlotte

Lucinda Merriman b. TN about 1811. Others in household are Mary, Elisabeth, Patsey Merriman and also a James Jones. He is 36, so born around 1824. James Jones and Lucinda Merriman both born in Tenn. according to census. I suspect that Lucinda's maiden name is Jones making this James Jones her brother. I have tried countless ways to find some of these folks descendants as they are named heirs in an estate of an uncle Mark Jones in North Carolina.
