Hi Eileen; Went back through the book you so graciously sent to see if I missed something concerning the Rankin's and Flemings but "no go". The reference to Violet Rankin & Jacob Fleming is from a posting on Ancestry so am waiting to hopefully hear back from a post-em. Will try the site you mentioned and see what I can come up with. Thanks so much. Sharon - If I remember correctly your Flemings were in Rutherford Co., TN. There is an excellent archives at Rutherford Co. http://www.rutherfordcounty.org/archives/ Follow instructions to enter, go to "online resources" and then to "record book index online". There are some Flemings listed, although not Jacob. You can order these records online or by phone and when I did, they even sent them on the honor system. I used their services a year ago and they were very reasonable. Good Luck. Eileen B.
Thanks for the reply--am keeping a record of everyone just in case I make a definate connection. With the big families they could all end up being related! Hi: I have an Edward Fleming married to Mary Richey, who died after 1914. This is a side branch for me, and I have nothing more but the name caught my attention. LYNN in AZ

Thanks Lynn. Have looked at a number of Jacob Fleming's but no way to determine if they're the right one without a wife attached! :-) Will keep looking. There are some Shelby Co, IL death records on LDS microfilm. The Illinois database has two death indexes. The one for pre-1916 has Shelby Co. deaths on it. When searching, always hit 'reset' before making a second search. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html Eileen Bridges
Here is one VERY limited place to look. The state of Illinois has an official website that includes a lot of very good data on early marriages, and reasonably good data on deaths. Both of these are better in urban areas, of course. I just looked at it, and found that for one village, Arthur, a project has been done putting online births from 1868-1925. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/arthurbirths.html#about Arthur is on the county line between Moultrie Co. and Douglas Co. Moultrie Co is just to the NE of Shelby Co. and Douglas is E. of Moultrie Co. The chances are minimal that you will find one of your children there, of course, but it is worth a try. Read this page, go to the URL and remove the #about, and it will let you go to the search page. Hopefully, someone else will have another, better idea. Finding births in IL is always hard because infant baptisms were rare during this time period in most denominations. If you know the denomination you can sometimes find them. Churches like the Catholics and Episcopalians seemed to be uncommon. Now someone will prove me wrong and you will be able to find what you need! Hope this helps, or brings help out of the woodwork.
