My great-grandfather Dr John Newton PHIFER sold his practice in Shumway and moved to Chicago. Just a few months later he moved to Stewardson where he began a new practice and was a founding member of the Bank in Stewardson. In 1915 they did retire to Chicago where their 5 children lived. They were members of the Methodist church. The minister, Rev, went all the way to Chicago to officiate at the funeral of Sarah in 1921. I have the pages from the history of Stewardson. However, I am interested in any information that fills out this period of their lives.

My grandmother's father, John Louis Engel, exemplified all the best qualities as a son, husband, father, brother and community leader. He was a builder, taught by his uncle, in Shumway. A few years later he bought the lumber yard and hardware store owned by another uncle. He then opened lumber yards in Beecher City and Stewardson, which were operated by his brother. He had a millinery department in Shumway that was operated by my grandmother, Lillie, his eldest daughter. I understand the lumberyard in Stewardson is mentioned in the local history publication. I would love to have a copy of that. Is there a picture of the store before 1918 when he died? Is there any other local data and history? John ENGEL married my great-grandmother in November 1885. I am trying to make a CD for his descendants. Any help you give with be part of my honor of him. Thank you all Lynn Phifer

Lynn, I don't find a Rachel FAUGHT in my files, but have these- Allie Kathleen FAUGHT b. abt ?1889 married 30 Oct 1909 Shelby Co, IL Calvin KIRKPATRICK. Calvin KIRKPATRICK was a son of David Calvin KIRKPATRICK & Sarah Lavina (HIMES). Sarah Lavina (HIMES) was a sister of my paternal great-grandfather William Henry HIMES of Shelby Co, IL. Pearl FAUGHT b. abt 1883 married 25 January 1911 Shelby Co, IL. William John KIRKPATRICK. William John KIRKPATRICK was also a son of David Calvin KIRKPATRICK & Sarah Lavina (HIMES). I am looking for any information you may know. Who owns it? Who owned it initially? Why is it named the Craig cemetery? Everything I can find out. I have some ancestors buried there. I was just there last month and took some pictures. I was unable to get to the Shelby Genealogical Society though. I wanted to get a copy of a list of everyone buried there and the history of the place. Thanks for your response.
