Hi list, I sent this to the ILColes list and thought you might also be interested. My name is Kim Griffiths and I'm writing from Redmond, OR. I have ancestors from Coles County, but mostly Shelby County. I was reading my paper here this evening and came across this obituary. Not only was then maiden name very familiar to me, but she was born in Mattoon. Right away I thought one of you might be interested, I may even be interested and not know it yet. If you could help me tie her to Berry Tully Webb of Shelby County, then she would be related to me as well. Thank you, Kim The Bulletin, Bend, Oregon, Friday April 20, 2001 Helen Irene (Webb) Emeneger Dec. 17, 1914 - Apr 17, 2001 Helen Irene (Webb) Emeneger of LaPine Oregon died Tuesday April 17, 2001 of natural causes. There is a virus what it does I am not sure but remember you cant get a virus from Rootsweb mail list because they will not allow attachments. Now what I have found is this I coordinate many mail lists which I see many emails well I have been hit with this virus. It disguises itself as a reply from whomever name it uses then in the Subject part of the email header it reads Tim Casey RE: IL Southern digest #1 okay this is a forged email the person does not know he sent it. At the bottom of the page it will tell you to do the following Take a look to the attachment dont do it . I have these messages come from different Mail Lists one subscriber from Massac Co IL notified me of her problem, IL Shelby Co IL , IL Western . This is not a hoax folks go to your Anti Virus and update. I understand that this is very new. Dont email the Lists you subscribe to you can email me [email protected] and I can tell you more but dont think you recieved an answer from a subscriber answering your question it may be the virus using a persons name. Anything on the list is okay to open but make sure it is on the MAIL LIST not a personal reply. Tim
Tim & James........... Thank you very much for letting us know about the virus. I immediately put my Norton to work and it was not attached to my computer. It show's great integrity to take out the time to let us know about the virus. Respectfully, Marcia
I am going to make some suggestion here and it is to improve the research. This is a good mail list no problems of any kind since I have had it. Everyone is respectful and helps when they can. That makes a good list. But we need to do some different things to make it easy for those newbies and others. 1. Dont just click on a email to reply change the subject line so it is has more substance to it. say I send a email to IL Shelby Co and in the subject I put Levi Casey okay that gets my attention when I see it on the list okay then I respond to the email in the querie or email it said Levi Casey where did he migrate from. I respond to the list in my subject Levi "Ole Flynn" Casey SC KY IL so that makes it new reply . When you use as an example Combined History of Shelby and Moultrie County as your subject you may be hurting your chances of finding a cousin who is researching your surname. I click on all those messages because my Casey, Tolly are others may being asked about plus checking for rootsweb. It is more of a benefit to those on the list if that Subject read Casey, Tolly . But I would rather click on a Subject named Casey /Tolly than go thru all those same subject lines. Again this is a suggestion some will follow it some will say what the heck. I just want to make the list more researcher friendly lets say. Now someone will get upset but this is not complaining but constructive suggestion. Please do not email the List with your thoughts on this if needed email me at [email protected] use Shelby Co IL List Administrator in your subject line and I will return your email. Hi Everyone 1st send any email about message below to Tim Casey not the list [email protected] . James did the right thing to tell his fellow subscribers that he may have sent a virus to those he was helping. Remember something if you get an attachment in a Rootsweb mail list dont open it as you and anyone else cannot send an attachment to a Rootsweb mail list which is Shelby Co IL is. I have recieved some emails that were emailed to me personally looking like a Rootsweb mail list email. Yesterday Monday I recieved one I emailed the person back about why I could not open it , he emailed me back that he had a virus, you may not know you have a virus and it attaches to email you send. Hi Dick.......... I have been looking at this site for sometime, with great interest. When you have time would you see if there is any Hieronymus in the book. Thank you very much, Marcia

Appreciate your help. Judy
Dear List, My apology for approaching this issue this way, and if I'm out of line, List Administrator, let me know. I'm concerned that I may have inadvertently spread a virus today. Background: Several weeks ago I offered to do look-ups in my indexed copy of the Combined Shelby and Moultrie Counties history book. Today I finally found the time to get it done. I responded to 13 queries and my responses were sent off-list. Or I think they were and that was my intent. Some time after my last response, I did a send/receive to check for new e-mail. I got 13 new e-mails from me, James R. Cazier, to the 13 people I sent responses to. I also got a virus alert for the new Badtrans virus that has been going around. I isolated it and deleted it, so I think my computer is OK. One of those responses had an attachment to it. The bottom line is that I didn't send an attachment with any of those responses, so if you got a response from me, with an attachment, it is probably a virus. For those of you I responded to, all of my response data was in the body of the e-mail. If you have a response from me with an attachment, DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT. You should be safe in opening the e-mail and taking my response data from the body. But, again, DON'T OPEN AN ATTACHMENT. But one of you has an infected computer. Who, I'm not sure. So I suggest each of you do an up-to-date virus check with an up-to-date antivirus program. And again, I apologize if I have inadvertently infected anyone's computer. Dick Cazier

Steve, I'm sorry, I just don't have the time to respond with look-ups of a broad shotgun approach to that many surnames. All surnames except McCray and in the index.
