    1. [ILSHELBY] Mount Olive Baptist Church
    2. Sherry Mazzetti
    3. I should have added that most of my family belonged to the Mount Olive Baptist Church near Cowden which reportedly burned and then was torn down. Cemetery with my relatives is still there. I can find no reference to tell me if Primitive Baptist or other. Does anyone here know? SHERRY

    2. Sherry Mazzetti
    3. Tim Casey and I share a number of families in Fayette, but my King and McDaniel families are not directly related to them. I may have to revise my statement about King and McDaniel being Primitive Baptists in Shelby County. One was a Separate Baptist according to sources. Let me "study up" a bit and get back to you all. As the families went through VA to KY to IN and IL, the Baptist group may have changed a bit. As for listing the names, Robert has the right to control his info, but I hope that nothing we have said would discourage him from making that info public. SHERRY

    2. Robert I have read with interest your letter. I have watched this list over the last couple of months and seen how you have served others with the knowledge and expertise of your church records. I know you were overwhelmed with requests which you diligently answered. What wonderful blessings you, the members of your family and church must have received from your efforts. Sharing the complete records your church has, no matter where they are placed would certainly be a service to all who are in need of them. I can't begin to imagine the Lord's generosity in doing so. 1. [ILSHELBY] Berry T. Webb - Shelby Co., IL
    2. William "Bill" Webb
    3. Hello, I've been noticing the conversation about Berry Tully Webb. My Webb's were in Shelby Co. at the same time but I have been unable to find a link. I was able to make a trip to Shelby Co. from Texas this last August for some research and I have some land records on Berry T. Webb (presume it is Berry Tully) that I thought some on the list might find useful. I don't have copies of the deeds -- just the record. I'm sure copies can be obtained from the Shelby Co. Courthouse for a small fee. I hope to come back to Shelby Co. later this summer. Webb but I had recorded many pages of Webb's, was getting tired and running low on time. Had to abandon the actual record. I found records for many Webb's: WW Webb, William Y. Webb, Allen D. Webb, Emily Webb, James M. Webb, Francis M. Webb, Phebe RA Webb, Willis S. Webb, JB Webb, John Webb and Cyrus Webb. Spent an entire day recording Webb's and found 1 lone record for my GG-Grandfather William Webb in 1870 (when he bought 40 acres in Pickaway Twp) and 1 lone record for his 2nd wife when she sold the 40 acres in 1880 after he died. At least I didn't leave empty handed. Hope these records are helpful to other Webb Researchers. Bill in TX

    3. The Little Hurricane Church was it Primitive Baptist. The Wright's , Hill's, Whitten's and Casey lines were members I believe. Henry Hill was there , Abner Casey, Easton Whitten, seems memory said there was an article on the early church . 1. Re: [ILSHELBY] PRIMITIVE BAPTISTS
    2. Robert L Webb
    3. Sherry, I'm a Primitive Baptist minister (sixth generation of my family in a direct line to be a member of that faith) in Carthage, Illinois, and conduct a formally organized religious library for our people and their friends, publishing books, binding periodicals (which contain indexes of obituaries), collecting association minutes, locating - copying - and microfilming church records, and trying to compile a history of our churches county by county for both Illinois and Iowa, and we have a website and computer databases of the members from the records now totalling almost 30,000 names. The reason for my comment is not that I do not wish to help - I have been helping genealogists by the hundreds or thousands since 1986. Instead, it is to keep some control over the research work we have done ourselves, rather than turning it over in whole or major part to others. For example, the Mormons have offered to pay to have our whole collection filmed. But we declined their kind offer, as we are able to do this ourselves, and we have the funds to do so, and we feel we are better able to help people understand who the Primitive Baptists are, and find the information they are seeking, than others would be who know very little or nothing about us. I may be wrong, but that is my thinking. I hope you will understand. I am presently attempting to get on wireless internet and publicize our Library, and allow the various county websites to link to it, etc., so that our resources will be known far and wide, even more than they are. We welcome help from all parts of the state in this endeavor which is really almost too much for us. If you wish, I can check your McDaniel and King names and let you know. If you are seeking information on certain individuals, please let me know more in detail what you wish to find out about whom. We are trying to conduct our work in a manner to result in goodwill toward us personally and toward our church, and hopefully not cause any reflection upon what we feel is a very rich heritage as a church. Sincerely, Elder Robert Webb On Thu, 26 Apr 2001 09:58:07 -0500 "Sherry Mazzetti" <[email protected]> writes: > ROBERT, > > My McDaniel/King family (and some relatives) were Primitive > Baptists. 1. [ILSHELBY] SHAY & RENNER
    2. Thanks for the wonderful posting of the Shelby/Moultrie Book. What a wonderful labor of love. Have enjoyed reading it. Still searching for loose ends on my RENNER and SHAY lines. As stated in the book, my TOBIAS RENNER and his wife Cynthia Smith came to Shelby Co in 1838 from Ohio with the SHAYS. However, Tobias Renner and Synthia Smith were originally from PA. I am still trying to find parents for both Tobias and Synthia (also spelled Cynthia). Tobias died Oct 14, 1845 and is buried in Richland Cemetery in Richland Township. Cynthia died April 30, 1868. Is there any chance of finding any burial records or obits for this time period. I do have a copy of Tobias will or estate settlement. As for my SHAY line, Abram SHAY died April 1, 1842 in Shelby Co. He left a widow Ruth with several children. I am trying to find a maiden name for Ruth? Any suggestions. Abram's son John Shay was the executor of his estate but I have not located a will. All leads appreciated. THANKS Carolyn in Oklahoma

    2. Edna
    3. I just joined this list and am hoping that someone out there can help me. I'm searching for information about my great grandmother, Alice (Allice) Knox. Alice was born on 3/5/1873 to William and Mary Elizabeth (nee Summers) Knox in Shelby County. Parents of Mary Elizabeth are Samuel and Hannah Summers I believe. William and Mary Elizabeth were married 10/19/1869 in Shelby County according to the Illinois web site. Alice Knox married Joseph Lofland on 12/7/1886 in Shelby County. She was only 13 or 14 according to my records. Joseph was born 9/28/1859 in Pickaway County Ohio. He died 1919 in Vandalia, Illinois. Alice died on 1/18/1959. Joseph and Alice were my father's, Albert Lofland, grandparents. In searching the 1880 Census for Shelby on rootsweb, I found my great grandfather Joseph Lofland and family in Pickway Township. I did not find any information on my Knox or Summers families. I do not know if Alice had any siblings. Thank you for your time and effort. Edna
