Dick, Is the book available for purchase? If you have the time and don't mind, would you look up SUMMERS and KNOX? Samuel Summers is my ggggrandfather and William Knox is my gggrandfather. Thanks, Edna in Arizona
I just started researching a Gingery or Gingerich family who lived in Shelbyville, Shelby County around 1870. Gingerys were in Shelby County at least as 1884 to my knowledge. At least two were married in Shelby County, and I am wondering if there is any marriage index compilation for the 1800's? Also does Shelby County have any census index for 1870 or 1880 yet? I have been working mostly in OH and MI, and nearly all the counties in those census records there have been indexed. Richard
I found Levi Jefferson Turner marriage16Feb 1862 to Phebe Blythe in Shelby Co and I found them again in the 1870 cesus of Shelby Co. Us Census. my grandfather was born in Shelby Co.in 1871 .People and relatives say they lived in Shelbyville then some say Windsor .So where William Died I would say it was before they left IL. and they left between 1872-1875 and went to Kansas but William Franklin Turner There and I guess it could be him because I think he must have been born in 1800 because Levi Jefferson was born 15Jan1839 and William is his father. Thanks ,you might be right. But now that you sent me that maybe William Franklin Turner died in 1883 and that a good possibility that it's a good chance it could be him,I have found when they make a big move it is because there are more brother and sister. And yes I did find Levi jefferson Turner and Phebe Gilitine(Blythe)Turner she is buried in Schaffer cemetery near Potwin Kansas, she died21Jan1887 in Whitewater,Kansas, then I found Levi Jefferson inCherokee Co census in 1910 he had married again and had 3 more children,he died 15Jan1839 and I have death certifcates and clipping from newspaper coming and where Phebe is buried they are sending pictures of grave site because she and Levi had two children buried there and a 3rd one after her mother died it's has four side and each one is one of them ,then I have Levi other wifes certificate coming too.If you get a chance while you are looking and if you see that grave of William Turner take a picture .I will find out for sure if that is him.Kansas is a great state to be looking in because they are very helpful..Have a Great Trip.Ruth
Jeannet, Go to you web browser. Type in the URL www.glorecords.blm.gov . It's the Bureau of Land Management site that contains all public land transfers to private owners by federal land patents, including homestead entries and other types of transfers. Follow the search instructions. Good luck! Ruth, I can't say that I've found your WILLIAM FRANKLIN TURNER, specifically, however there was a WILLIAM TURNER who died in 1883 & is buried at the old Spain Cemetery along with a lot of our oldest Elams. I found no surname: JEFFERSON in any of the 4 volumes of Ed Bodecker's cemetery books that I have, nor in the 1850 Shelby Co IL census. I did find a Phebe E. BLYTHE who died in 1906 & had married a Swinford. So Phebe was a name carried in that family & is probably connected to yours. I hope to be able to buy more volumes of Bodecker's work when we make a trip "home" in June. A Sarah Turner married my paternal great grandfather, William Elam & had my grandfather, Joel Thomas Elam. Remember that there are so many unmarked or lost graves and when we get to our gg grandparents, it gets VERY challenging to find proof. I would write to the Shelby Co. Historical Society and see if they can find an obit for your William Franklin Turner. This is all I could find on the names: TURNER & BLYTHE: SPAIN CEMETERY, SEC. 20, BIG SPRING TWP.(ELMER TABBERT'S PASTURE) Hubert Turner- 1891-1974 WILLIAM TURNER - 10/--/-- - 8/1883 (handmade sand stone slab, very hard to read) Wiley H. You need to know which cemeteries were near where your families lived, then purchase whichever volumes are most likely to contain your people. These books were very reasonably priced (around $10 per). You will likely have to correspond with Mr. Bodecker by paper mail. The listing for which cemeteries (including township info) are covered by each volume can be found on the Shelby County Historical Genealogical Society webpage: http://www.shelbycohistgen.org/cemetery.htm cheers, Vicki
There are 10 or 11 Volumes in all and they can be purchased for $10 each through the Shelby Co. Hisorical Society. I don't have the email address in front of me, but it is listed on the Shelby Co. IL Rootsweb Site. Actually, you can go there from that site & email requests to them.
