Can someone tell me why people started moving to the Shelby co. area in the 1830's? Was there a particular event? My ancestor, Russell FLETCHER, moved his family there about 1836. Susanna Clark-Smith "Motivation is when your dreams put on work clothes"
Dear Sue, Try Control Key + "F" together. Hope this works for you. Cheers, Ella
I hope someone can help me with this. I had a relative that went to this Seminary and received a report card for the month of Oct. 1859. I hope that someone can tell me if their are any record's for this seminary that would list student's. The report card did not mention what State Shelby Seminary was in so I went on line and copied all the Shelby's and Shelbyvilles. The one thing it did mention was the name of the Principle who was Charles W. Jerome and that is how I narrowed down the list to one! Is there any printed record's on the Seminary? I have seen and made a copy of the information from the History of Shelby and Moultrie Counties, Il. I am hoping that more in-depth information is available someplace. Thanks, Sue
Would someone be willing to look at any printed cemetery book's and tell me if any BAINES are in them. Thanks, Sue
God bless you. I never knew that. For those of us learning by trial and error those little hints are wonderful. I can recall many times I could have used this edit option with "Find." Norma
I must be doing something wrong, I tried it and it didn't work. What do I have to do? A tip for everyone... I'm sure many of you know this and use it often, but I have found this especially helpful when going through online census data with no search feature. When you have the page open, use "Find" from your Edit menu and type in the name (or any other word, #, etc.) that you are looking for. It saves a lot of time and headaches, but be careful to check numerous spellings so you don't miss anything by being too exact. Hope this helps! Hi Susan, A big THANK"S .I found my husband's Ggrandfather & family & my Ggrandfather & Family. The Robertson & Beck Family's...........Sharon..................
Hi Susan: I went to the site and believe it or not, the person I think I'm looking for is on page 764! I couldn't believe my luck! I got the information off Ancestry.com - Illinois Census, 1810-1890. The person I'm looking for is Henry K. Bones but I believe it will turn out to be Baines and he was in Shelbyville Twp. page 764. Hello Bill, I would encourage you to borrow the film for SLC to your local family history library. The film # is 972,767 for Shelby County, Illinois. It only lists the name for the head of household but, has some other useful information also. To the best of my knowledge, there is no index. Here is a sample entry from my family: 1865 Illinois State Census - Shelby County, Ash Grove Township (SLC FHL 972,767) page 25, line 2 Louisa Storm 1 fwm <10, 2 fwm 10-20, 1 fwf 10-20, 1 fwf 40-50, $300 livestock value, $300 grain value, $50 other agriculture value, 20 lbs wool Note: I do not have a copy of the film, I borrowed a copy from SLC a few years ago. It is quite readable. cheers, Vicki
I was wondering if anyone on the List could help me. I have learned there was a state census conducted for IL in 1865. Would anyone have access to the census and be able to do a lookup for me or be able to tell me if it is on line somewhere? I am trying to locate the whereabouts of my 2nd G-Grandparents William and Penelope Lineback-WEBB around this time frame. I can document them in Howard Co., IN on 21 March 1862 (from a real estate transaction - sold a Hotel in Russiaville, IN) and I can document them in Okaw Twp, Shelby Co., IL in Dec. 1868 (from Court Records). It is during this 6 1/2 year time frame that I have lost them. I am trying to determine when they left Howard Co., IN for Shelby Co., IL. William WEBB was b. abt. 1816 in IN - would have been abt 49 in 1865. Penelope was b. 6 Dec 1816 in IN. Children still at home in 1865: Louisa b. abt 1847 IN Martin Holden b. 16 Mar 1849 IN Reuben H. b. abt 1852 IN William L. b. 1854 IN Benjamin Franklin b. 30 Mar 1858 (my G-Grandfather) Any help or thoughts would be deeply appreciated. Bill in TX
Would someone be willing to look at the 1860 census for the Shelbyville area? I have looked on line and that is the only part that doesn't seem to be on line. I'm looking for a K.Henry Baines or a Henry K. Baines. I found him in the 1880 for the Tower Hill section. I have a G. Baines for a George Baines that got a report card from the Shelbyville Seminary, Oct. 1859. Just need to confirm that this school was even in Shelbyville, the Principal was Charles W. Jerome. Thanks for any help you can be. Sue

Hello Listmembers! I'm new around here so I thought I'd say Hi! and let you know who I'm looking for and have info to share on. My search subjects include Pope, Snow, Whittington, McDaniel, Burrus, and about 80% of the town of Herrick in the Dog Years. I am Dana Pope at [email protected]
The Eatons came to Limestone Co. TX with the Parkers in 1833. I know that is way early for your bunch but could be some earlier connection. My Lindleys were in Shelby/Coles Co. IL before coming to TX in 1833 I think with the Parkers but no proof of this only that they left IL at the same time & got to TX at the same time as the Parkers. Samuel Washington Lindley my ancestor had a bro. that was Simon Lindley who went to Sangamon Co. IL & he was a Minister in the same church the Eatons & Parkers were in. Lots of connected names & places here. Pat Oates in TX. At 05:11 PM 7/11/2001 -0400, you wrote: >Pat, I am currently researching the Wilson Family however not the names you >mention at this time.
