Terria, I am descended from William Hooper and Jeroushia Crocker's daughter, Eliza. Eliza married first to William Nance (my greatgreatgrandfather). After he died, she married his brother, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Nance. Note that three children of William and Jerousha, beginning with Mary, are born too close together to be possible. Can't recall (at the moment) what made me determine that Eliza had to be dau of Wm. and Jerousha, but I excluded William's sibling's families. Any info on your end that could clear up the one born late 1829 and two born 1830--mine early? Believe dates for Mary and Eliza are from tombstones in Mudrun. Think the 1850 census figures ages just confuse matters in terms of age. SHERRY

Have you ever heard of H.H.T........It's called Qsler.Weber.Rendu.Syndrome. It's a Hereditary thing some of my Robertson ancestry's in Shelby County, had & diedwith...Sharon.....
I hope you don't think I'm TOO dumb for saying this; but, I don't understand what you are talking about. Don't these boys have families? > >Geneology is not my area of expertise. I am looking for my disease, Friedreich's Ataxia. It's hereditary but I don't know of anyone in my family who had it. It's caused by a recessive gene so both my parents carried it. As such, it can skip many generations. My guess is that my ancestor who had FA died young [but not before having children]; and was VERY uncoordinated [perhaps, called a drunk out of ignorance]. I found another woman with Friedreich's Ataxia who is also a decendent of a REYNOLDS. Hi Sondra, Although not related to the families, I do have some data on them. My family came to Moultrie and Shelby Co in the 1830s. As I searched for them and relatives, I recorded their neighbors, hoping to find connections. In this case, none materialized. If you will e-mail me, off list, I'll send you a gedcom of the data I have, including notes and sources, which include the county history you mention and Moultrie Co. records. Look forward to hearing from you. Susie, As I said in a previous note to you, I will do a lookup on your Charles Reynolds tomorrow when I go to the library. On the 1870 IL Census Index I found this listing: REYNOLDS, CHS - 35 - M - W - KY - SHELBY COUNTY - 4-WD SHELBYVILLE - page 305 This is the only Charles in Shelby county. I am curious on the REYNOLDS surname also since they married into my PONSLER line, and in Shelby County, Illinois. Possibly a connection may be there. I have lots of ancestors who settled in Fayette, Shelby and Effingham counties in the early 1800s and I think they were looking for free or cheap land. Some land, at the time, sold for $1.25 an acre. Then there were those who were entitled to warranty land. The government offered such land to former service men to speed up the movement to western states. I also think the slavery question, the Indian problems, and in some cases, religious freedom entered into it. Gayle
Brian: Well, no. No one really responded to my question. My Russell Fletcher arrived with his family around 1836 and he would have been about 37 years old at the time. When he left and moved his entire family (married ones, too) to Texas in 1854 - he was about 55 years old and had been a County Judge in Shelby Co., IL. with alot of land. Perhaps he was looking for good lands for his descendents at that time. They also started a Church of Christ when they got to Texas and I have wondered if Shelby Co., IL was a stronghold for the Campbellites (aka followers of the Church of Christ). Incidentally, Russell's daughter , Mary Ann Fletcher, married John Thomas Smith in September, 1849 in Shelby Co., IL. Any relation to your ancestor? ----- Original Message ----- From: Brian W Smith To: [email protected] Sent: 8/25/2001 9:44:27 PM Subject: RE: [ILSHELBY] Migration patterns Susanna, I not sure if you got a response on why people move to the Shelby county area. I'd be interested to hear a good explanation. My ancestors came about 1830, plus or minus. Illinois was admitted as a state in 1818, but it seems only real pioneers would be settling in some place like Shelby county at that time. There were land bounties about 1828 that seem to start the movements. There were still "indian wars" at that time. After the Black War for 1832, there seems to be more stability and I think that encouraged more people to move. Some time around then, they started to move out of the valleys and discovered that prairies were good farm land. One of my ancestors, John Smith, was in his 50s when he moved to Shelby/Moultrie counties. I'm baffled as to why he moved at 50, he should have been well established, more than why he came to Shelby county. Any thoughts?
