    3. I reference 1860 Shelby County census, page 00437.txt. Lines 14-17 of pg no 450, Dry Point Township. Anyone that is researching the following: Phillips Wm A 31 M farm (renter) 500 VA Phillips Mary A 22 F ILL Phillips Harrison L 9/12 M ILL Bane Sarah 12 F ILL I am very interested in this Sarah Bane. Anyone working on this Phillips family, would love to hear why this Sarah Bane was listed in this household. Am trying to find a link to a Baines family, Elizabeth born 1849 in ILL, father born Scotland, mother born KY. Any other family of this sibling Elizabeth. And no, this is not of the Henry K. Baines line that has been referenced in other mailings to this site. Some information tells me that Elizabeth was born in Cumberland Township, can't verify that. Only her marriage in Coles Co in 1876 as listed in IRAD. She married my great grandfather Oscar LeGrand. Any help appreciated. All 1860 census that I have accessed has not yet provided me with a link to my particular line. Debbie Combest Beach [email protected]

    1. [ILSHELBY] Orphanages
    2. debrabeach
    3. Just learned that my great grandfather Oscar LeGrand, listed as age 2 in 1880 Shelby County Ill census was orphaned around the age 8, along with a sister Adela (age under 1yr in 1880 census) and a newborn baby brother Henry Lewis Legrand. Their mother Elizabeth Baines Legrand is believed to have died during childbirth of Henry in Aug 1885. Then, just about one year later, their father George H. LeGrand passes away (cause unknown at the moment). So here are three small children orphaned. I believe sis Adela could have been adopted or placed with family/foster family, last name changed , therefore is hard for me to trace at this time. Have found living descendants of newborn Henry. But further information as to his life is yet unknown, in fact this living descendant was unaware of the other family members. (But with snail mail, plan to remedy that soonest). What information would anyone have regarding names of orphanages, foster care programs thru churches during the late 1880's early 1900's timeframe in and around Shelby County? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Debbie

    1. [ILSHELBY] just a note
    2. How much history is there on Shelby co ,on churches ,on schools? Is there one book that might give me insight on my family. My g-g-grandfather William Turner moved there in 1840 ,my g-grandfather Levi Jefferson was around 6 years old when they moved there,he was married there, my grandfather was born there in Windsor ,John Alfred Turner born 17Oct 1871. Do you think I could get a birth certicate on my grandfather?William Turner died there in 1883 do you think, could I get a death certificate. Since I have been doing genealogy on my family I have found a greater need of knowing more ,sometimes I feel so close to all of them like I really knew them and talk with them ,I don't know how others feel, but sometimes my family thinks I'm nuts.Thank you for your help. 3. Truthfully, Sherry, I think I asked only due to the names involved. This particular line is not my own but I have so many Robertson connections I "take" them all <grin> I believe she was born in Indiana but he was a Rev and they were in the Illinois area during their marriage. So I was really only asking if there might be a connection of sorts and not for anyone to go looking out of their way. I appreciate your help though. Also on the other message, you have the Nance and I have this married into my Alkire but although from Illinois this was in Iowa if I remember right. Can check it out if you wish me to. I do have "deep" roots in Shelby County though ~ Ponsler, Shumard, Breckenridge, Yakey, Manhart, Roley, and besides all that my little brother is buried in the Stewardson Cemetery (John Roy Waughtel) and in 1999 I was finally able to get a marker up but want to get a permanent one soon. He died in 1933 as an 8 month old baby. Thanks again. Antoinette Sherry Mazzetti wrote: > ANTOINETTE, > Just checked a Robertson database. I did not find an America Robertson. 3. TERRIA and ANTOINETTE, Terria--Feel free to use material on anyone who is deceased but please don't post any living relatives. I have recently determined (to my satisfaction, anyway) that my Nance ancestor was a James Nance from Cumberland Co. KY, but I haven't found his origins--probably VA. Also, no luck on Arthur Crocker, despite Arthur being (seemingly) the most popular first name for the early Crocker line. Point is, I sympathize. Actually, I work most on my McDaniel/King lines, so I don't have much time to fret over other dead ends. That's the deal with genealogy. It's a puzzle you never really solve. Antoinette--I can look to see what I have and if I can locate your particular relatives. I have fairly distant Robertson inlaws by the way. SHERRY

    3. Not sure, maybe Sherry can answer that better than me. I know that there was a Mary Ann Story that married into the Hooper line, he may be off that line. Moses Story married a Bankson and I think they were the parents of Mary Ann. They were from KY....I believe. Sherry, I have some of your information that my cousin Glenda Velon shared with me. Do you mind if I put up some of this info on the www.hooperweb.com site? I know some of it is your Nance line, but it could help some researcher along the way. I am excited to get back into this. I have been finding Hoopers in the early 1700's in eastern NC. I am gleaning all I can and hopefully some connections can be made. I am at such a dead end on James Hooper, William's father. Wish I knew who his parents were! Can't recall (at the moment) what made me determine that Eliza had to be dau of Wm. and Jerousha, but I excluded William's sibling's families. Any info on your end that could clear up the one born late 1829 and two born 1830--mine early? Believe dates for Mary and Eliza are from tombstones in Mudrun. Think the 1850 census figures ages just confuse matters in terms of age. > > SHERRY > >
