You might check to see if any of the old newspapers have been microfilmed for an obituary. Normally, at that time, deaths were not reported to either the county or the state. Check to see if your library might try to locate a "Goodspeed's Shelby County History," those were done about 1880. Fred ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dr. Susan L. I have some unusual names in my family--my great grandmother, Lieuseba, her children, Odirone and Amerita, and her mother-in-law, Hiner. Does anyone know where any of these first names came from?? Susie
I finally found William Edward Reynolds in the 1870 Census. The name Chs Reynolds was difficult to read...it was obviously written REYNOLDS, then the Chas, was scrooched in sideways....anybody looking in an index would never have looked for the spelling Chs...but the CD Rom showed ages and I guessed at him from his age, which would be ca 35. We are fortunate in this household. This kooky census taker generally showed the wife as Mrs. Jones....and gave her no first name. So we were lucky that Eliza is here to positively identify her and him. William Edward would be the next child born, after the census, 11-70. Shelby County, town of Shelbyville Ward #4, taken 4 June 1870, pg 305, house 20 Chs Reynolds, b ca 1835, Shoemaker, worth $150, b in KY Mrs. Eliza, b ca 1841, IND Thomas, b ca 1861, IL John, b ca 1862, IL Charles, b ca 1867, IL Oscar, b ca 1869, IL Susie

Just want to say a BIG THANK YOU for all the detailed info rec'd on the directions to the Oconee Mound Cemetery. My COMBEST ancestors are buried there, along with the Old COMBEST Cemetery, Glenwood Cemetery and the Jordan Cemetery. Lots of wonderful places I shall be visiting next month. I am so excited. Haven't been back since age 10, so feel I will be visiting for the first time. THANK YOU ALL. Debbie
This is in response to "debrabeach's" query yesterday regarding the location of the Oconee Mound Cemetery. A search of the USGS Geographical Database through the following site will bring up both a description and a map of the location of this cemetery: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form After you have searched and found the cemetery listing, click on "Show Feature Location". Scroll down to the second map, then click on "Zoom In" twice. Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately our local library is too small to have a micro film reader so they won't order in films. I have a reader but they still won't order in films. Thanks for the suggestion anyway:} Sue from Idaho ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vicki Hutchison" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2001 10:48 AM Subject: Re: [ILSHELBY] death for Henry K. I'm looking for a firm death age for Henry K. Baines. He was alive the 29th of Nov 1888 and by the 7th of Dec 1888 his wife Susan E. Baines was appointed Postmaster of Tower Hill Twp., so he died in that time period. Would Court record's mention anything about his death? How would I check for a will? He was appointed Postmaster for Tower Hill 10 Apr. 1873 the 1st time and the 2nd time he was appointed 31 Aug 1885 til 7 Dec 1888 when his wife Susan E. was appointed. Anyone have any suggestions? Would any County Hist. have mention of him? Thanks, Sue from Idaho

You might consider also looking for probate or land records. These are generally more common than a will. I'd recommend that you visit familysearch.org and check out the family history library catalog for shelby county, Illinois: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp I have had good success borrowing microfilms from them to my local family history library. Under Shelby, Illinois -> Probate Records You will find that they have 13 rolls of probate records covering the timeframe from 1828-1922. For example: Administration Records vol F-G, 1884-1894: film #1,008,429 Wills, vol A-B, 1870-1895: film #1,008,433 Inventories, vol 15-17, 1877-1894: film #1,008,432 Best of luck. Vicki
Can someone tell me the URL for Eastman Newsletter Thank you Shirley
Have accessed the 1875 Plat map for Shelby County showing boundaries and townships. Wondering if there is another platmap prior to this one, that might show a township of Cumberland? Could it have been absorbed by another county prior to this 1875 Plat Map? Debbie.
