Sue in Oklahoma, You and I have talked about Tower Hill in the past, and I for one like your suggestion about a web page or something like that to show other information about Tower Hill, Illinois. To rest of the list, in Tower Hill I am currently searching for more information on James and Henrietta Miller and any of their children Wilber Fisk Miller, Thomas Plummer Miller (married Harriet Milliken), Mary Francis or Fannie Miller, Elsmore Colfax Miller, or James LeRoy Miller. Also anyone with the surname of Rarer. Debbie in Anchorage
With so many requesting look-ups today, I thought I would jump in too- I am interested in the Quigley family which I believe went to Shelby Co.- Ellen Quigley m. David Herron, Adella Quigley m. Elijah Grewell, Sidney Quigley m. Silas Bland, Phebe Quigley m. Sidney Baxter- I'm especially interested in any descendants of these couples. I have a lot of information on William Williamson and his descendants. He settled in Shelby Co. about 1828 and was the first sheriff. I'd be happy to share this information with anyone who's interested. Kay
Hi Tim, I descend from William Williamson, the first sheriff of Shelby Co., IL. He was there by 1828. I'll check my files and see what I have in the way of a history. I'm leaving Thursday for about ten days without e-mail access. Brenda, >From The History of Tower Hill and Vicinity by Homer Eiler: p. 39 ""Verily in the midst of life we are in the midst of death" As often remarked that, "death is no respector of persons" we can also say that tragedies are no respector of homes, or the standing of the near relatives. Such is the case as regards the home of Rev. Parks, one of the most respected ministers who ever lived in Tower Hill. On the late 90's his son Tommy, was found several miles from home in a field with all indications of self destruction." Also on page 56, the Reverend Thomas Parks is listed as one of the pastors of the Presbyterian Church in Tower Hill. Hope this is useful...Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 8:36 AM Subject: Re: [ILSHELBY] Tower Hill website??? > sue, do you have any parks in your info. thanks for any help. only know they > were in shelby county in late 1800's. brenda >
Tim, Is/was "Germantown" a part of Shelby Co? If so, James Bankson, James Hooper, & Jonathon Hill formed that town. Arthur Crocker was one of the first settlers in the Cowden area. Don't know about the other areas. Hope that helps.....if nothing else but to jog peoples memories. Sue, That would be a great site. I' msure a lot of folks would enjoy your site. I had HIMES, CHESSHIRE, MOSE & LUPTON ancestors from Shelby & Christian Co, ILL. My own Beverly Jane HIMES ancestry line chart going back to earlier ancestors is in the HIMES link of our homepage. http://members.truepath.com/beverly/index.html Thank you so much for your offer to share a site with us all. It is very kind of you. Beverly Jane (HIMES) BARGER [email protected]
I do have the text of index for 1850 Shelby Co IL and 1830. I do have the pages for 1860 and 1870. I tried to take the text and format to webpage it will not keep the format it gets garbled. It would take me months to redo for the site. My question is there volunteers to do this. I could scann these and save on website. This is not my work and is Dianne Wittenberg's work she has given me permission to do what I need to do with the files. Many have clicked on the Census and to disappointment it did not work. I will see what I can do about that but have found no answer.
Needed a brief history of how Shelby Co IL was started. Need to put on Shelby Co IL website Tim Casey
