Sue, Thank you so much! I do not have that photo, but would love to have it. Is the Directory only that, or does it have any narrative, etc.? Thanks! Ron
Thanks, Terria. Although I left Stewardson in 1940 at the end of first grade <grin> and never made it back until 1990, I have been back at least three more times since then. I have distant relatives on my dad's maternal family plus the fact I have a brother buried in the Stewardson Cemetery who died there in 1933 as an 8 month old baby. In 1999 I was able to get a temporary marker for his gravesite and hope to (soon) get a small permanent marker up for him. So you have given me a good idea of where it is, will check it on a map and see where it is in comparison to where my "ancestry" was and if they might have been in that area. The index does not have first names. This is what I sent to another Parks researcher: >From The History of Tower Hill and Vicinity by Homer Eiler: p. 39 ""Verily in the midst of life we are in the midst of death" As often remarked that, "death is no respector of persons" we can also say that tragedies are no respector of homes, or the standing of the near relatives. Such is the case as regards the home of Rev. Parks, one of the most respected ministers who ever lived in Tower Hill. On the late 90's his son Tommy, was found several miles from home in a field with all indications of self destruction." Also on page 56, the Reverend Thomas Parks is listed as one of the pastors of the Presbyterian Church in Tower Hill. Hope this is useful...Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 10:11 PM Subject: Re: [ILSHELBY] surname index > does it give first names for the people, i am interested in the parks surname. > >
Due to the overwhelming emails to Sue for lookups from this point on please email Sue with your look up there is a problem with blank emails I dont know why they are coming but trying to figure it out is another problem. So please email her at her email address for now. It will be sometime before you get a answer I am sure she is overwhelmed with these requests. Tim
Antoinette, I am not too good with directions, but Tower Hill is north of Cowden (on the way to Shelbyville) and you turn off to the left. There is a fairly large cemetery on Tower Hill....by the way, it is just that, a little hill! <g> In relation to Effingham, it is north on I think it is 128. Not quite sure of the number, but this road goes on north to Shelbyville through Cowden. Hope that gives you some fair directions! Sue--I have several Moores(More also). My direct line was Shadrack Moore and Sidwell Moore. Do any of your books have these names? Thanks so much for looking. Julia
I would be very interested in seeing various collections of data from Tower Hill, Shelby Co IL on a web site. My ancestral lines include the following who have ties to Tower Hill: 1)Samuel Cox who moved to Tower Hill from Pickaway County OH about 1838. His children are: Bushrod Cox Matilda H. Cox (mar. William Harrison) Ellender Cox (mar. Curtis S. Thomas) Alcinda Cox Hanson (mar. John Hanson) George Washington Cox (mar. Arabelle Pritchard) Harriet Cox (mar. Jacob K. Leader) Josiah Cox (mar. Mary Ann Reynolds) John Cox (mar. Evaline Wade) 2)Joanna McDonald, daughter of Rev. Thomas and Susannah W. Corder McDonald of Pickaway Co OH. She married Stephen Jester and lived in Tower Hill. 3)Amy Anne Malin who married Bushrod Cox in 1847 had Malin family ties to Tower Hill. Her parents were Jared and Elizabeth McDonald Malin who first moved to the Tower Hill area about 1838 and then moved across the county line to Stone Coal Precinct in Christian Co IL. Several Cox, McDonald and Malin family members are buried in Eiler Cemetery. Karen Cox Gray
Sue, I see that you are going to be very busy. I am looking for information on my Tower Hill ancestors. My gr grgrandfather James R. Smith. He married a Nancy Short (believe her maiden name to be Patterson). I saw Patterson and Smith listed in your surname index. Is there anything on the Short family?
