I've done so many lookups for this list that I'm hoping someone will help me with something I need. If anyone is planning a visit to the IL State Historical Library at Springfield sometime in the future, I need some obituaries copied. I have the name, date and page number and newspaper name. I don't live in IL and don't think it is fair that I should have to pay $10 per request just because I don't live in the state. Anyway I can't afford it either! I'll gladly reimburse for copy costs though. Thanks, Sue
Did you see if they have your resource through IRAD? They only charge ten cents per page. I have gotten several marriage records that way. Sue, I live in St. Louis, but I've been working on my Flat Branch connections--Denton, mainly, but also Tolly, Armstrong, Casey, etc. I was planning a trip to the area sometime after Thanksgiving, and I would be happy to look for whatever you need. Just let me know. Hi Jan, Thought this may be of interest to you and others. Below is a copy of some recent correspondence from an ANDERSON cousin. Our ggg grandparents: ANDREW ANDERSON & NANCY HARRELL ANDERSON are buried at Oak Grove Cemetary & also had land in the 1840's just across from it. I don't know, but he was born in 1864. I have a picture of them taken in the 1930's/40's and they were both very old. Hattie Mae Ponsler Reynolds was born in 1872 and my mistake ~ she was married to Clarence Monroe Reynolds, not John Reynolds. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington) [email protected] "Dr. Susan L. Ron, I moved to Pana from Moweaqua in 1979. We lived 1/4 mile from the Shelby/Christian line. I attended school in Pana from 4th grade until graduation. I was highly involved with the Shelby County 4-H, starting out with the Moweaqua club and then Oconee and later Tower Hill. My mother still works with the Tower Hill club and still lives in Pana. My father was raised around Cowden. It is his family that I am trying to research. His mother was from Cowden and his father from Stew-Straus. Having started out knowing nothing I have been able to uncover some information on the Carlisle's from Cowden but have had no luck at all for the Thomas's in Stew-Straus. I haven't been back to Pana for quite some time. It always amazes me the changes that have taken place after years of the town seeming to be immune to it. Sherry, For the life of me, I cannot find the story about Germantown. I know I had it bookmarked, but just can't find it. Have you read that history? I thought there would be a link on the Clinton site but alas....not there. Just hopeful that you have that link. I didn't realize it wasn't in Shelby Co. until you said so. Thanks! Thank you Joyce, I guess I never really went into the town. I only went by way of the road I described. I have 2 cousins that live there. I was also thinking of the cemetery. It must be a good ways away from the town then. Anyway, please disregard my directions, yours are much better! <g> Terria ----- Original Message ----- From: "Conklin, Joyce S." <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 5:22 PM Subject: RE: [ILSHELBY] Tower Hill > I grew up in the Pana, Tower Hill, Moweaqua areas. Sherry, I am not sure the road name that goes to the left heading from Cowden to Shelbyville, but you don't have to go all the way to Rte 16. There is a small sign that says to Tower Hill. It is only about 7-10 miles from Cowden I think. Going all the way to 16 would make you have to backtrack south. I grew up in the Pana, Tower Hill, Moweaqua areas. Tower Hill is on Route 16, probably 7 miles east of Pana which is in Christian County or about 4 miles from the Shelby-Christian Line. Its about 10 miles west of Shelbyville. Tower Hill is pretty small but 16 goes through its northern side. If you're coming from Cowden, the quickest way is to take 128 up to the Lakewood blacktop. It'll take you west over to the Herrick blacktop, I'm assuming that's the Co Rd 15 mentioned. Go North 7 to 10 miles and it'll take you around the curves and over the railroad tracks into Tower Hill. Or you can take 128 up to 16 and then go west which is a straighter shot. One note is that most county roads are not marked although they are getting better about it. You'll just see a sign that says the town with an arrow or x number of miles. Also, many locals don't call the roads by the road numbers and may not know the road number but will refer to them as such and such blacktop which will be the town that the blacktop runs into. So if you stop for directions, you'll need to not only know the road number you're looking for but also some of the towns on that road. -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Mazzetti [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 3:24 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [ILSHELBY] Tower Hill Not been to Tower Hill, but I am pretty familiar with both Shelbyville and Cowden. GERMANTOWN is near St. Louis--about 100 miles Southwest of Shelby County. Have to check the county--don't know offhand. SHERRY
