    3. Hi: I'm looking for a cemetery around Shelbyville that would have a Susan Baines/Bains/Banes in it. She would have died in 1859. She was the first wife of Henry K. Baines of Tower Hill. Does Shelby Co. have a mortality schedule to the 1860 census? Thanks for any help anyone can be. Sue

    3. Tim, If you go to the Moultrie Co, IL site at the USGENWEB project, you will find a link to the Moultrie County site by Martin Eden. Click on that link and, among other things, you will find a copy of the 1881 History of Shelby and Moultrie Counties. I think you will find what you are looking for in that book. If you have trouble with that, I have a copy of the reprint of the book. I can probably scan some of the pages and send them to you. 3. Sue, I agree that $10 per request is high, especially when it is for out-of-state requests and they charge less for in-state requests. If you can't find someone willing to do the lookups for you, I have a suggestion. You might try your local library and request interlibrary loans of the microfilms of the newpapers you have names and dates of. Not sure the cost of these loans, but I think it's just cost of mailing the films back and forth. Or you might want to check a website called Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. It may have volunteers in Springfield that would be willing to do the lookups at no charge. The URL is http://raogk.rootsweb.com/listing.htm. I don't live in IL and don't think it is fair that I should have to pay $10 per request just because I don't live in the state. Anyway I can't afford it either! My wife is from Tower Hill, but the family was gone before you moved that way. We get to Pana about once a month. It is drying up. Many businesses folding, lots of crime now.
