Crippled--not sure why. When she married Walter, in Dakota(?), he wanted daughter Freeda to come live with them. Freeda's Grandmother Sara, that she was living with, refused. Grandmother Sara then to court and got legal custody of Freeda. Said she wasn't going to let Freeda take care of the house etc. for them. Grandpa George Montooth was very mad about it. (not sure if it was Sara having custody or not letting Freeda go to her father) George Montooth raised several grandchildren. Mother Betty Roudebush Bader remembers her. Said she had to be carried to and from car and always use and 3 foot stool to prop her standing. Her house was filled with all kinds of pretties that she and Walter had made that no one else had. (doilies, fancy curtains, etc.). You weren't to touch. Mother Betty said she loved a prism-chimney thing they had. Walter even made things out wood. Mother Betty said she remembers lawn chairs he made and he made them for lots of people. They were on the dole or some pension--Mother Betty thought they did this for extra money.
