Howdy Folks! I just subscribed to the Schuyler County list, and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Meg Gentry Bookout, and I descend from two families that were in Schuyler Co pretty early-Hollingsworth and Reno. My 5th g-grandfather was Abraham Hollingsworth, who died near Rushville in December 1837. His son Avenant Hollingsworth married Mary (Polly) Reno in IL in 1822, the daughter of Jonathon Reno, who had come to Schuyler Co from TN really early-his daughter Louisa was born there in 1826. Jonathon was a wandering kinda guy, he lived all over the place, finally meeting his maker in Springfield MO in 1838. He was stabbed to death, helping a merchant "clear out" some rowdies from the store. He was 57 at the time, so he must have been one tough dude! One of Avenant's brothers, Gabriel, stayed in Schuyler Co and supposedly helped build the Jail that is now the Jail Museum. Haven't found out if this is true or not. The Hollingsworth family has also passed down Lincoln stories, which I am sure EVERY family has <grin>. A couple of Hollingsworths DID serve in the Blackhawk Wars at the same time and same place as Abraham Lincoln, so maybe the stories are based in truth. Anyway, that's my introduction-I'd love to hear some other Schuyler County stories! Meg in CA
