    3. On the OK list we share information about localities...history, so to speak. Is there anyone on this list who has cemetary listings, access to census, etc. I've gotten some good info thus far, but would appreciate your added information. We are in OK and not very close to the Hist Society in this state. (We're also new at geneology.) Appreciate your patience, Beth & Jim Little

    3. We descend from two lines of Stoneking in the Schuyler & McDonough Co IL area. I received a flyer from a fellow in Iowa who is publishing a book "The Gin Ridge Clans - being a genealogy and history of hte Mason, Frakes, Willey, Stoneking, Hendrickson, Clark, Womack/Waymack, Singleton and Canivet failies wiht someinformaton abuot the Buckner, Lemley, Dye, Dark and other allied families." I have worked with the author in the past, and he seems to be a good researcher. I don't know that it is appropriate for me to advertise for him on the list, so I will just say, if you are interested please e-mail me privately and I will give you further information. I do not know this man personally, and I have no financial interest in his works. Gayle gayle1@wheatstate.com

The State of Illinois will grant $50 (as of 7/31/97) toward the installation of such a marker if installed on a Veterans grave within Illinois. As the memorial grave marker is a Federal benefit, these are requested by submitting a VA Form 40-1330 (Application for Standard Government Headstone Or Marker, For Installation in a Private or State Veterans' Cemetery). I was informed of the above from the State of Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. They did not tell me where to get the form. And they did not tell me how to submit for the $50 Illinois benefit. 1. MACE, LUTTRELL, GARRETT,
    2. Kurt Bucholtz
    3. I am looking for information about Joseph S. MACE. He was b in PA about 1816 and was living in Schuyler CO., in 1846. He married Nancy LUTTRELL BAKER March 12, 1846. They had four children: Marcus Aurelius b Dec. 14, 1846, Margaret A b 1849, Martha Jane b. May 5, 1850, and Nancy Addie b. July 15, 1852. Family have alway said that Joseph left for the Gold Rush and never returned in 1849. However he did have two more children after that time. I know that Nancy remarried in 1860 to Joseph WRIGHT. I have found no divorce papers for Joseph MACE and Nancy nor have I found a death for him. Marcus Aurelius married Minerva GARRETT in Rushville. I would like more information on her family. On Minerva's death certificate it has that her father was John GARRETT and mother was Roda BUSHNELL and on her sister's death certificate it has that her mother was Mary HUNT and father John GARRETT. It also has the John GARRETT as being born in IND. Margaret A MACE married Frank FOSTER September 1 1867 in Rushville. I have nothing else on these two. Would love more information. Martha Jane married Martin V. WRIGHT December 12 1862 and they had two children; Carrie that married a Rodgers and it had a Sammy that died. Would like to know anything about the boy that died. Nancy Addie married Thomas Jefferson STROOPS September 19, 1871. I would like to have obituaries of these two. I have a lot of information that I would be willing to share with anyone. Thanks Margaret

    2. Pedersen
    3. Looking for any information on a G. TAYLOR and his wife, Nancy Ann ___. She was b. abt 1779 and d. in 1842, at Schuyler Co., IL. She is buried at Mt. Harmony/Davenport cemetery and on her tombstone, it says Nancy Ann TAYLOR, wife of G. They probably m. abt 1800 and possibly in KY. They had at least two daughters, Elizabeth Ann TAYLOR, b. 1816 in KY, m. 1833 to Daniel JAMES; and Nancy Ann TAYLOR, b. 1818, m. 1834 to Elias HARRIS. The older Nancy signed for both of these daughters to marry in Schuyler Co., IL, so her husband was probably deceased.

    3. GOULD GOULD GOULD GOULD GOULD GOULD GOULD GOULD GOULD Olive GOULD was my grandmother. She married Oliver Elisha (Elwood Webb) in McDonough Co., IL. (The Webb's were from Fulton Co, Webbs Prairie, IL. and traced back to 1600's Virginia). Olive was born in Ray, Oakland Twp, Schuyler Co., IL in 1880. Deceased Rock Island, Rock Island Co, IL. Olive's father was Warner M. Gould, and her brother was George Gould b. 1879 in Otoe Co, Nebraska City, NE. Warner M. Gould married Martha Moore (daughter of Solomon Moore from Oakland Twp and Lincoln Co, KY and Julia Ann (Judith) Willis) in Schuyler Co., IL in 1876, 13th of November. Warner was 29 at the time of his marriage and Martha was 23. The marriage license was signed William H. Baxter. On June 2, 1877 Warner purchased property from his brother Robert Horace and wife Mary Hills. Warner's siblings were Robert (above), John Walker Gould who married America Beghtol Hill, Sarah Gould who married James Franzel, and Joseph Henry Gould. Warner and all of his siblings were born OH. Joseph and Robert were born in Coshocton Co. They appeared in Schuyler Co, Oakland Twp, around Ray, IL in 1880 census. Joseph and Robert served in the Ohio Civil War and Joseph stayed in OH. Robert was a private (97th Regiminet, OVI Company H. He was wounded in the battle of Mission Ridge, which I believe is around Chatanooga, TN. Joseph (Battery D, 10th Artillery). They were all born c. 1830-1840. Warner is listed as quarrying Rocks in Schuyler Co. I wonder what rock quarries are around Schuyler Co? Warner M. may have been deceased before 1990 because Martha married two more times. 2) Billings Robinson, 3) Frank Shepherd. Billings children ended up in Rock Island, IL. Warner's father was Jason Gould and his wife was Eunice Walker. Jason was born in NY and Jason and Eunice were married OH. Jason was born abt. 1808. They were in Franklin, Coshocton, and Summit, and Keene in OH. Possibly E. Cleveland Twp. in E. Cleveland. I am waiting for some info to verify that. Jason's father was John F(T) Gould who was born NY c. 1775. His wife's name was Olive born in MA. Where was John born in NY. There is a possibility of blackfoot ancestry. Who was my blackfoot indian ancestor? The blackfoots were from Canada I believe. I did find a John Gould same time frame in Canada. Were they our Gould loyalists who were kicked out of the US only for their son John to reenter the US, or is my John one of the many John Gould's somewhere in NY? I have also been informed of the possiblity of Olive Thompson??????????? Any info/any queries. Laureen wite@icanect.net Coral Springs, FL.

    3. Jim, While at this point I have found a William M. Little, in the 'History of Schuyler and Brown Counties, Illinois 1686-1882, reprinted in 1994 by the Schuyler County Historical Society, there is several LITTLE: George, James, and a company 'Little & Ray'. George Little filled the Office of School Commisioners and Superintendents by appointment in June,1847. He was also the President of the First National Bank of Rushville. The way to reads it sounds like the date was 1882 but I'm not sure. James Little and Dr William H. Wendow located the village (Littleton) the 31st day of July, 1849, and procured the services of Leonidas Horney, then county surveyor, to survey and plat the town. Elevator of LITTLE and Ray is situated on the switch of the C. B. & Q. railway. It was built by this firm in 1868, at a cost of $3,000. The structure is of the regular elevator style, and is about 28x36 feet on the ground, 56 feet in height. It has a capacity of elevating 2,500 bushels of grain daily, and can store 15,000 bushnels. It is operated by horse power arranged in the basement. I think that gives you some places to look. Might be two families one in Littleton and one in Rushville. 1. Deloss Skiles/Skyles
    2. Jack and Jan Byrnes
    3. This posting contains the surnames DELOSS, SKILES/SKYLES, JOHNSON, BLACKWELL, FANCHER, LYON, PEAKE, MARTIN, NOSLEY, KIMERY Thank you, Sara, for all the information you have given. I am hoping perhaps you or one of the other list members can help me with the name Deloss (Delass). I noted it in your first posting. My grandfather was Melvin Deloss Skiles, (1885-1927) of Schuyler County. He married Maude Leona Johnson (1897-1974) from Golden, Adams Co, probably about 1920. I am still searching for their marriage documents. We believe that she was his second wife, as the children remember being told they had an older half brother named "Durwood." Melvin died in 1927 in Golden, leaving three small children. Maude married 2nd Charles Blackwell. They subsequently lived in Keokuk, IA. Maude was the daughter of Charles Moses Johnson (1866-1940) and Mary Elizabeth Nosley (1878-1963) of Adams Co. Charles Moses Johnson was the son of Squire Johnson (born c. 1842- died 1868 in Adams Co), Co. C, 57th IN Vol. Inf., and Laura Ann Kimery (born c. 1842 in IN, died about 1875). The children of Maude and Melvin were always told that Melvin's middle name, Deloss, was the maiden name of his mother. However, his death certificate lists his parents as Barton Skiles and Mary Elizabeth Fancher. Barton Skiles (1848-1920) was the son of "Jake" Skiles (1814-1881) and Mary Ellen Peake (1927-1899). After Jake's death, Mary Ellen Peake Skiles married 2nd Jonathan Martin. Mary Elizabeth Fancher (born 1859-60, death date unknown), born in Milan, Sullivan Co., MO, was the daughter of Charles Jasper Fancher and Virlinda Lyon. Can anyone help answer the following questions. What is the connection between Melvin Deloss Skiles to a Deloss (Delass) family? Where is Mary Elizabeth Fancher Skiles, wife of Barton Skiles, buried and what was her death date? Where did the marriage between Melvin Skiles and Maude Johnson take place? Who was Melvin's first wife, and what were the names of their children? I am also interested in sharing information on all the other families mentioned above and have many questions about them as well. Does anyone see a connection? Looking forward to hearing from some cousins out there. Happy hunting. Jan Byrnes

    3. Okay, Schuyler Co List: I'm going to try again. If anyone has any suggestions where to look; any history pertinent to this time; any magical links to this family...I'll take it gladly! I cannot find our William on the MO census, so his family may have moved before 1860 to IL or ?. According to census, his parents were from KY. We have failed thus far to connect to any of the KY LITTLE families. By 1880 this family of three appears in the Taylor Co IA census where they remained until moving to OK in 1901. ****Susan Alice SPIEGEL's parents were from KY, according to every census we've found. Her birthplace was IL and we were hoping it was Schuyler Co. On different documents, we have found her last name spelled numerous ways: SPEGAL, SPAGEL, SPIEGEL, SPIEGAL, SPEGLE. We are hoping her family was around Schuyler Co long enough that her birth and marriage records might show up somewhere. 1. Help me find the Justus family

    3. I'm trying to find the ancestors of my gggrandmother, Elizabeth Kirklin/Kirtlin/Kirkland who married William Robertson in Schuyler County in 1831 (Lic # 73). from History of Schuyler County, Illinois Volume I: He married Elizabeth Kirklin {Kirkland}, a girl who came with settler friends from Tennessee to Scott County {Illinois). She stayed with them a few years, then walked to Beardstown , which was then a town of only a few log houses, to visit the Justus family whom she had known in Tennessee. After learning the location of the Justus' farm from the ferry man at Beardstown, she secured transportation by horseback to their home. The Justus family operated a mill in Browning Township at the Meisenheimer ford on Sugar Creek. While visiting the Justus family, Elizabeth met William Robertson who frequently came to their mill. They were married in 1830. He was forty years old, she was eighteen. If I can find where in Tennessee they come from, maybe I can find who her family was. LaVina Walton said that she was told that Elizabeth was a orphan and that her son, Joel went to Tennessee because she was owed money. I haven't been able to find anything else about her. I haven't been able to find her in Scott County, Illinois either. Sara
