Shortly afterwards he was ordained as a Methodist pastor. In 1839 the Richmond family moved to the Oregon Country (not then part of the United States) as Methodist missionaries. They returned to IL in 1843 and he was assigned to various pulpits including Rushville. He represented Schuyler County in the IL Senate 1848-52 and 1858-1862, and in the IL House 1854-1856 or 1858. Dr. Richmond spent one year as a Methodist pastor in Madison County, MS in 1853. America Richmond died near Rushville 1858, buried Rushville. Dr. Richmond married Kitty Gristy in Brown County in 1859. The family moved to Brown County about 1865. Dr. Richmond was Educational Commissioner (aka Superintendent of Schools) in Brown County 1865-72. The family then moved to Dakota Territory about 1873. In 1859 his daughter Felicia Richmond married Jonathan Neill of Rushville. About 1870 John Richmond, Jr. married Alice Graves. Alice died 1871 and in same year he married Anna Seelay. Both marriages may have been in Brown County, IL. The other Richmond children married outside IL. It is not known what became of the Talley girls. Both were still in the Richmond household in Rushville in 1850. One still there in 1860. The Bible is a German Lutheran Bible and the text is in German, as well as the listing of births, deaths, etc. As I do not speak German I cannot read it, but I do know that it belonged to a Jesse DANNER and Salma DANNER. The entries were written in the 1840s. If anybody is looking for information that matches this description, please let me know. Inside the bible is a letter addressed to: Andrew MILLER, York Co., PA, dated April 9, 1864 - written in German. On another piece of paper is written "Lidia SUCH. Born May the 3, 1861 and Died April 15, 1865 age three years eleven months and twelve days." "Amanda HAMM, a daughter of Samanda [?] and Conrad HAMM was born the 14 day of November 1864 and diet the 23 day of September 1865. Aged 10 months 4 days." 3. Hello all- Today I saw a sign regarding employment opportunities for census takers for the 2000 census. I know I take it for granted that someone took the time to visit my ancestors and write down all their information for me to see 100 years later. If you can spare the time at all, please consider being a census taker (I don't work for the census bureau) so that our genealogical information will be preserved for years to come. (Just in case, your filing cabinet worth of notes, doesn't survive!) The census bureau has an employment site: http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/employ.htm I'm going to try and do it in my area and I encourage others to do the same! Vicki Fair

    3. Hi, The Redbook is "Ancestry's Redbook - American State, County & Town Source", 1992 revised publication, Ancestry Inc., SLC I believe you can order the state censuses from a Family History Center. AGLL (American Genealogical Lending Library?) might have them, but I haven't seen their brochure in years. It also states in the Redbook that the censuses are available on interlibrary loan from the Illinois State Library. So, you might be able to order them through your local public library. 3. Richard was correct that Federal census were done every 10 years, but many states did the 5 yr census. (1855, 1865, etc.) I've found family that wouldn't have shown up on the -0- years on the -5- year census. Does anyone know why the states did that?
