The following is a legal description taken from a deed provided to me by IRAD, (Springfield office), and I am beginning to wonder if I have misinterpreted it. The date of this deed is April 1830. Is it possible that the numbering of the townships was different at that time? and that perhaps this is not Cotton Hill township as I have supposed, but some other? How should I go about finding out? Location: One acre from the S.E. 1/4 of Sec. 17 in Township 16, in the Springfield district, "commencing at a white oak tree on the bank of said Howell's Spring Branch."
