I can't add much, but I do know there was a Primitive Baptist church at Buffalo Hart, the same faith as the Little Pigeon church where the Hanks and Lincoln's were in southern Indiana. The Buffalo Hart Grove church was organized in May 1872, at a "union meeting house" probably in or near Buffalo Hart, but I don't know where it was exactly. There were nine charter members, John R., Robert E., William A., Lucy, Emily, and Patsy, of the Burns family, and James Elder, and Benjamin and Ellen Luckett. Elder John H. Myers was chosen as their first pastor. The church was still in existence near the turn of the century. I don't find Keziah Likans (Likens) in my database for Primitive Baptists in Illinois, but that is not conclusive, since we have only found about 100 of the 400 churches which have existed, and Buffalo Hart Grove church is not one of them. If anyone knows of a photo of the union meeting house at Buffalo Grove, I'm interested. Per the 1874 Atlas of Sangamon County Buffalo Heart Township "This township is in the northern tier of townships, and the second from the eastern boundary of the County. The first settlement was made, in 1826, by Rob't Burns, A. B. Case, Jame Linn, Wm. P. Lawson and Rob't McDaniel. It is watered by two small streams. The face of the country is generally level. Fine deep, rich soil. Corn is grown in large quantities. Stock raising is extensively engaging the attention of the farmers. We cannot ascertain the date of the first school or the erection of the first schoolhouse or church. They are not behind other communities in this respect." Buffalo Hart is located in Sec. 20 of Buffalo Hart Township. On the plat map there are churches shown on Sec. 28 and Sec. 29 which would be South and SW of the community. If trying to locate on present day map, you probably won't find it, as it is merely a stop in the road. Find Buffalo on map and it was located north/north west about four or five miles.
