Hello: My family, MULQUIN(N) and SHAUGHNESSY, settled in Springfield, Sangamon County, in the 1850s and 1860s. I am trying to find out how to search the records for the early Roman Catholic Churches that existed prior to the founding of the Springfield Diocese in the 1920s. Has anyone ever tried to search the records at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield? Any assistance is getting access to these records would be most appreciated. Thank you. Go to this web site and scroll down to the "United States" link. There it will give you a page with the states. Choose the Illinois link and scroll down to Diocese of Springfield. Here is your information on contacting them and offices. They will also tell you if a certain parish is still in existence and where the records might be. The site is http://home.att.net/~Local_Catholic/ Good luck.
