With all the discussions of burials, it may be timely to ask about my GREENWOODs. The book "Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois" by John Power noted several generations of GREENWOODs noting a William GREENWOOD, who arrived in Sangamon County in 1824, living near what is now Curran township. I thank a Lister for sending me the GREENWOOD data from this book. My records begin with a Johnathan GREENWOOD, who came from an unknown parish, or possibly arriving from England. He married Lucretia McTYRE [or McINTYRE] in 1734. Lucretia is the earliest birth noted in my line, 1709, Christ Church parish. They had several children among whom was William, born 1740. He married an unknown person, this union produced another William in 1772 , who married Ruth BROOKS. This is the couple who arrived in Sangamon County in 1824. They had 9 children one of whom was Thomas GREENWOOD who married Ann LINDLEY. One of his 11 children was John Thomas who married Elva Phesant, they moved to Nebraska from McLean County, so the family must have left Sangamon County before John Thomas's birth in 1853, McLean Co., Illinois. Christ Church parish records note this GREENWOOD line from the early 1700s, and saw parts of 4 generations of GREENWOODs there in Middlesex Co. Knowing a fairly good amount of their lives, I was not particularly interested in their burial sites for awhile, but I am ready to begin looking now. Christ Church must have been large, the number of people listed in the registers is incredible. Were many buried in a large cemetery there ? Or were they buried in smaller, homestead or family type plots ? Ruth Brooks GREENWOOD died 1837, William GREENWOOD died 1855, both in Sangamon Co. Where might I begin to look for them, and possibly some of the children ? Meg GREENWOOD / Oklahoma, USA
