Hello, I was hoping someone could look up information for me in the 1870 census. I am looking for James Thomas Brown and his wife Margaret (Leamon) Brown. James was born about 1826 in Springfield, Sangamon County, IL to Delos White and Ruth Ann (Morgan) Brown. I show him in the 1850 census for Sangamon County at Dwelling/Family 1433/1433 with his wife and three children. His father Delos White killed a man in a Springfield coffee house October 3, 1853 and he was bound over to the Circuit Court on a charge of manslaughter. Delos jumped bail and his property was sold to discharge his recognizance. Delos, his wife and sons, James Thomas and Jacob Jones left Illinois. I show that Delos and James Thomas were in Sidney, Fremont County, IA in the 1860 census. Delos died 25, Sep 1863 and is buried in the Sidney Cemetery. There is no record of his wife's death in Fremont County, IA. James Thomas was not in Iowa in 1870 and neither was his mother, Ruth Ann (Morgan) Brown. I suspect they went back to Sangamon County, IL. One of James' sons did stay and marry in Fremont County, IA. James' younger brother Jacob Jones married Nancy Martin there and stayed in Fremont County, IA and raised 9 children. Since his father, Delos, was deceased I'm sure James felt he could go back to Sangamon County with his mother and family. Most of the family is buried in the Morgan Cemetery so if anyone has the resouces to see if James Thomas, Margaret, or Ruth Brown are buried their I would appreciate the information also. By the way, James and Margaret were married in Sangamon County, IL June 19, 1845. I hope you can make sense of my ramblings. Thank you for your help, Sincerely, Charlene Swan Kes6135@aol.com
