Posted on: Sangamon County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Sangamon/1787 Surname: Farley ------------------------- I am looking for a James Farley who married and died in Sangamon County, Illinois. James was born in Dublin, Ireland on May 14, 1845. He married Maretha Anne Mann. His date of death is unknown but reportedly took place in the town of Riverton. According to data I have recovered, the James in my own family was more likely born in 1843 or 1844 (so the year in the other date I found might be off). He was born about 20 miles from Dublin, Ireland in County Meath. His parents brought him and three siblings to Morgan County, Illinois to the town of Meredosia, about 40 or 50 miles from Riverton. Later, the family moved to Stephenson County, IL. However, records show that James and his brother, Patrick both served in the Civil War in the early 1860's. And, as soon as Patrick got out, he moved to Morgan County to do farm work for a year. The thought occurs to me that James might have done the same thing, and might have met a girl in neighboring Sangamon County, whom he married on May 11, 1872. Basically, the James in Sangamon seems to be a close match to the one in my family (whom we lost track of after 1872). All we know is that when the rest of the Farley's moved to Dakota Territory in the 1870's, James did not come along.
