I have an ancestor who lived in Sangamon county in 1838 before in a portion that became Logan County. It appears as though my ancestor, Fredrick Stapleton may have left for a trip to Oregon/California in 1838 and died out on the prairie. Does anyone know of any group that left Sangamon county for a trip to the West in 1838? I have submitted this query to the Logan county site but have not received any message that anyone knows of such an occurence from there. Hopefully, somone familiar with Sangamon county history knows of a group that left in 1838. Thank you Bob Drennan
