According to family story he had a bad argument with his father about joining the Civil War and left to join the war but changed his surname from WARDELL to his mother's maiden name of ROGERS. This was done so his father could not trace him. On May 15 1862 he married Elizabeth Caroline GALLAHER (GOLLIHER)in Hannibal Marion Co Mo. She was the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth MURRAY GALLAHER. (Later Elizabeth married William E. LANE & lived Hannibal, Mo. until her death in 1925) John M.
