There are 2 family stories passed down: 1) John was of English Canadian decent, & born in Quebec, Canada. He had an argument with his father about joining the Civil War. John left home joined the Civil War and changed his real surname of WARDELL to ROGERS. The surname ROGERS was his mother's maiden name. The reason behind this was so he could not be traced. 2) John M. WARDELL was born in England and related to the King. He and his father had augument about joining the Civil War in America. He left England and traveled through Canada to reach America. In order not to be traced he took "the cooks" surname of ROGERS. FACTS We found military pension records for John M.
