There is a probate packet at the University of Illinois at Springfield's Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) for a Thomas Massey #229. Since this is such a low probate number, it may fit for your ancestor. You will need to contact the interns at the IRAD to have a copy made of that probate. I have no idea what it contains but there may be a will in the file. The will record books do not start until the year 1850 for Sangamon County. Their address as of 1996 was: University of Illinois - Springfield Archives, Brookens Library, Rm 144, Springfield, Illinois 62794-9243. The phone number that is listed in this book is wrong and I do not have their current phone number. I hope this helps.
