    3. Does anyone know of a cemetery in Rochester, Illinois called Mortarville? I have several family members buried there, but until I did some digging at the library to find out where they were buried, I had never even heard of it. Thanks

    3. Sure there's Mottarville(check you spelling) Been there, it's hard to find, although I took the directions with me, I still had to ask the locals where it was located. The younger folks in Rochester kept trying to send me to South Fork Cem. finally I found an elderly man, who said, oh you mean that OLD cem. what do you want to go there for? (g) My ancester, Elias Williams, was the second burial there. There's a hugh family plot, but it's in sad shape. His stone has fallen over(happened in the 1980"s) and headstones are just stacked up and piled together. The newer section is better.Rev. Sam'l Wms.had a beautiful inscription (it's now illegible) inscribed on the back of his brothers (Elias) stone concerning him and the cemetery. I have copy..Too long to send to group.) I have several pictures of the cemetery. Interesting facts on the cemetery. Source SCGS (Mo"r"tarville the former name of Berry, IL in Cooper twp. Named for William Morttar.
