The Sangamon County Genealogical Society host a research day Saturday, March 31 from 9 am to 1 pm at the society's office 2856 South 11th, Springfield, Illinois. The topic of the day is Finding Lost Ancestors Through Newspaper Research. The office is located three blocks north of Stevenson Drive on 11th Street and Knox and three blocks south of Bunn Park on 11th Street. Members of the society's board will be available to answer research questions throughout the day. Family history materials from the society's library are available for all to view including microfilmed copies of birth (1877-1916), marriages (1821-1925) and death certificates (1877-1940s) for Sangamon County. Surname and obituary files, Auburn Citizen (1874-1965) and other area newspaper microfilms are also available to view at the office. There will also be examples of what can be found in local newspapers while doing research including tips on where to find your ancestors in these valuable resources. Everyone is welcome to visit the library, a $2.00 donation is suggested. Tuesday nights in April we will also be open from 6 to 8 for those who can't make it to this event.
