    3. You need to check an index first! I went on-line to Ancestry.com, and found the following TIERNEY possibilities: 1860 Sangamon, Illinois Census: 1. B.M. Tierney, p. 144, Springfield 2. Kate Tierney, p. 141, Springfield The page number is the actual page of the census (either "A" or "B") that the entry shows. Check these pages, and you will find the entries. I was looking at the census today and became so frustrated trying to stay with the city of Springfield. Some pages were labeled Subdivision 17, post office Springfield and the very next page might have a different post office name entered. Also found District 16 with Springfield, Sherman, Dawson, etc. I am looking for the name Tierney in the City of Springfield. Any help for saving my eyesight would be most grateful. Is the 1870 census like the 1860? Thanks for any help that might be offered.
