SCGS Library Collections SCGS is fortunate to have two library locations. The main library is located in Springfield's Public Library in the Sangamon Valley Collection. See their website for more details: http://lincolnlibrary.rpls.lib.il.us/SVC.htm The office library, was developed over the summer of 2003 is located at 2856 S. 11th Street, Springfield, Illinois. The office library consists of surname files, misc. obituary files, vertical files, vital records microfilm for Sangamon County, and publications from a variety of other societies throughout Illinois as well as other states and countries. The surname file consists of pedigree charts, family group sheets, family histories, biographies, birth, marriage and death certificates. The obit file consists of obituaries gathered from the sources listed above and also includes some obituaries provided by current members. The vertical file is broken down into the following subcategories: Sangamon County townships, Illinois counties, states and miscellaneous genealogical topics. The township section will have a history of each township, a plat or map of the township, a cemetery list and any deeds found during research in that township. The Illinois counties section will consist of county maps as they are obtained over time as well as a historical overview of the county. The state section will have a map of the state and miscellaneous information on that state. The miscellaneous section will consist of "How to do genealogy" articles, cemetery research materials, deed research materials and internet resources.
