Hello! I'm returning to the list after several years absence. My ancestor, Johnson Cave, came from Kentucky to Pawnee, Illinois in 1861 and eventually settled in Custer, Illinois. Just yesterday I received a newspaper clipping that had been in the Illinois State Register, May 29, 1906, commemorating their 60th anniversary. The question I have is that in the writeup it states that Johnson Cave started what is known as The Old Kentucky the winter of 1863-64 founded what was known as the "Old Kentucky" school, about three miles southwest of Pawnee. Can anyone tell me anything about this "school". Also, the article had the following little bit of interesting information: It will be remembered that Mr. and Mrs. Cave on Jan. 14, 1906, filled and enjoyed the distinction second to none in the county or probably the state, that of being matron of honor and best man at their great-granddaughter's marriage, now Mrs. Zella Spicer Walker of Rochester. Are there any descendants of this lady in Sangamon County now? Thank you all for any help you can give.
